I just watched Pulp Fiction for the first time. It was weird but I really enjoyed it, I found it kind of like Stephen King's Darktower series in that it was hard to understand in the begining but very immersive. I liked how it was shot out of sequence, and the lame but somehow cool oldies music. The Gimp was pretty odd, but so was the whole redneck/basement scene. Have any of you guys seen this movie, and what did you think?

Dude Jeb, it is the coolest ever, you can watch it it over and over and still see new stuff, my gf HATES it though....

While it seems a little cliche now because it's "cool" ambience was copied repeatedly since 1994, Pulp Fiction is still a great movie, lots of fun, and more amusing with each viewing.

holy cow dude!
pulp fiction was awesome and changed the movie industry forever.
QT put all those other directors to shame and they changed their movies to seem more like his.
he is a genius.
( well, those vampire movies sucked, but pulp fiction is awesome)

every line in that movie was written in the script by QT.
no improv at all.
thats good freakin writing

The scene where Butch is stopped at the light and Marcellus walks in front of him has got to be one of the funniest ever.

I rented it when it first came out on VHS. I didn't watch the whole thing because I didn't understand it. I guess I was young and stupid. Now that I'm no longer young, I was thinking about renting it again.

I agree with Mr Bad.

Tarantino can be great, but he is also limited in some respects I find disapointing not only in his work but in the generation. In a way, Pulp Fiction was an instant cult classic by cult classicists. I enjoyed it.

I'm wondering how soon his drug use will run out of characters. The end effect of many of his and other products are to abandon the world we must live in. Everything is sleaze, tacky, money, sex or drug driven. This world view is hardly the one to take with you Monday morning as you report to work. Or to love your friends, wife, children and dog.

It is this generation's interpretation of existencial black humor.
But there are often saving moments- some nice touches. We need more of these.

edit- you know, his audience is the biggest in America- white suburban's.

I didn't know they watched movies.

Peckinpa was a genius who died drinking, perhaps died just as he became a genius..

Danny, you think Tarrantino came out of nowhere? Where you've been? Never read Elmore Leonard? Henry Miller, etc etc?

And no, I don't think he introduced that style to movies all by himself. You watch foriegn films ever? I'm no expert- I withdrew from film years ago- haven't seen a new release in over ten years in a theatre. I'll bet there were peers doing similar stuff-

What about the movie, Blood Simple? Who did that? Was that the Cohen brothers first film or whose? Someone famous now. Hope I got the name right- Josh would know.
When did Bad Day in Redrock, come out?

Yes, he writes great dialogue- real good. That is writing. It's a great relief to hear it too.

Martial arts flick "HERO" starring Jet Li, fight choreog from the Iron Monkey/CrouchtigerHidDragon flicks. In theaters soon.

"When did Bad Day in Redrock, come out?"

Munk, are talking about 'Red Rock West' (1994), with Nicholas Cage or 'Bad Day at Black Rock' (1955), with Spencer Tracy? Both are great films.

actually, pulp fiction did remind me of "the killers" with lee marvin and ronald reagan.
i think hemingway wrote that story...
its was pretty good too, reagan was a good actor.

In the interest of thread drift......

Anyone see "Brotherhood of the Wolf"? A great foreign film that was actually better with subtitles than when they dubbed english to it.

Wonder why I liked that movie.....:p

I've got all of Tarantino's movies (except for Kill Bill I and II) and Pulp Fiction is my favorite. It's just goofy and off the wall but very enjoyable all the same.

Semper is right too, BOTW is a great one too. For multiple reasons. ;)
