Hi everyone this is my first post in the Kershaw form and I have owned Kershaws in the past but none have impressed me enough to keep. I would always play with them for a bit and then give them to my friends and family. I had become something of a "knife snob" so to speak.

All that said one little gem of a knife has brought me here with nothing but praise. I picked up a Zing today and WOW! Kershaw along with Mr. Martin nailed it!

After reading elsewhere and seeing pics of R.J. on the assembly line I was really impressed. There was care and thought put into the process not just a design on paper faxed or emailed over. I had to check this blade out.

I own many knives Including "high end" productions as well as a few "customs" and I cannot get over how well this thing flips it is a damn rocket! No AO but it fires like auto.(yes I own some autos too I had to compare) It flips better than a couple of custom flippers I have.

Equally impressive to me is the lockup. The blade snaps open and there is no blade play NONE! I keep scratching my head and looking for majic dust residue to fall out of this thing. On an expensive folder I expect this but for $40 I am floored.

The only fly in the ointment was the edge it was pretty bad but I was able to bring it up to snuff in about 10 min not the end of the world. after the edge work I am happy with its cutting performance. I have never owned a knife with 14c28n so I am interested to see how well it will perform under daily use.

I am so impressed with this little knife It is an incredible deal for the money. If this is a reflection of the direction Kershaw is headed this will not be my last Kershaw.

All the best,
Jason

p.s. I also got to fiddle with the OD-1 I may just have to pick one up so the zing has company.:D

I'm currently waiting on my 1st Kershaw in a while (Composite Leek) and had already been looking at the Orange Zing. Interesting folder for a great price, and it would be easy to see if I took it along on a camping trip. Glad to hear your opinions on it.

I love my zing and everyone that has handled it has felt the same. Glad you like yours too!

Kershaw Kicks Ass Again

I have handled the Speed Bump with stainless steel lined black aluminum handle scales. The stainless liners and aluminum are adequately thick, fit and finish excellent, and lockup like a vault. I am not a fan of assisted but I can absolutely overlook this with no problem (it also has a safety)

If you insist on being able to close with one hand just as easily as opening then this knife is for you. That thumb stud lock facilitates one hand closing very easily.

Looking at this knife and feeling it reminds me of top quality benchmade knives that sell for about twice as much. The thumb stud lock should be strong for hell.

I don't know about the plastic handled version. I hope they continue making the black aluminum handled one as it is definitely priced low for what you get. These are also american made.

Let us know what you think about that Composite Leek.

I EDCed one for a while but graduated to the JYDII CB.
My hands are just to big for a Leek it seems.

Trying to adjust to a smaller knife - my recent EDC has been a Strider GB. So far just having fun playing with it while I sit at the computer. So far I'm impressed with how much knife I got for the money.

Congrats on your Leek!
The GB is a beast I have an AR great knives! My EDC consists of a SMF and PT I have large hands and the SMF suits me well but the excellent ergos of the PT make it handle like a larger knife.

After using my PT for a while (my newest Strider) the Zing did not feel that wierd. The handle has a nice shape to it and rests in my hand well so it is comfortable to use. I used to shy away from small knives do to my hand size but when they are well designed they are a pleasure to use. I think I am actually begining to prefer them for EDC. I still carry a large folder as well just in case.:D

Actually thinking about getting a Zing next. Thinking it might make a good work EDC in scrubs or along on a hike with the orange handle.

I bought the Black Zing because that was my only color option at the time.I like the knife so much I will be picking up the Orange one for "back up".

I haven't had a chance to play with a Zing yet. I think I would prefer the orange one. Everyone I have spoken with loves them.
If you like the size of the Zing check out the PackRat. There is another thread here that I posted some pictures of one.
Kershaw has done a really great job with new designs this year. I can't wait to see what is next.
