Sal,

How likely is the Wayne Goddard ltwt to be culled?

And, are there plans to upgrade it like the Delica and Endura, specifically the clip well?

Further, is there any chance that a Jr ltwt could materialize?

No pressure, I understand you feel enough of that already, just a request for a status report.

Thanks again Sal. I really appreciate your presence on the Forums.

MDP - We have no plans to cull the Goddard. We do have plans to modify the well. We have no plants to make the Jr. in FRN. I appreciate your presence on the forum as well.

Glad to hear the Goddard lightweight is staying in the line. It's my favorite lightweight camp knife. (50/50 edge.)

I'm glad to hear that the Goddard Lightweight is staying on as it's one of my top five favorite folders. I say top five because I have about 15 Spydercos at present and and am eagerly anticipating purchasing a few more

I purchased mine directly from Wayne. I met him in '73 and at one point in the late 70's had the worlds largest collection of his knives. I even roughed out a few blades for him. Even now we just live a few blocks apart. And if he reads this he'll wonder why I haven't been in touch.

BUT, beyond the sentimental attachment, this is one serious knife, utility or tactical, standard or reverse grip, left or right hand, this knife does it all. Thanx Sal and thanx Wayne.

I just got a Goddard lightweight. I have to say it is my favorite zytel handled knife.

I know that I saw somewhere that it was getting culled. Is Spyderco keeping it in the line-up?

Well, here it is in 2001 and as it turned out, the Goddard lite weight was in fact culled from distibution. My apologies.

Back in July, when MDP asked the question, it was not the plan, but reality reared it's ugly head and it had to go.

It's still available in the discontinued section of the site (we still have inventory). But we took it out of the normal distributon line. Too many models (SKUs) are difficult for the distributors, dealers and Spyderco to stock.

If we are to bring in new models, we must cull equal amounts (or more, we're still a little heavy).

Again, my apologies if I've disappointed you.

You really haven't disappointed me. I understand and wholeheartedly support your position. I am a knifeknut. I love great designs. I have been a full time police officer for eight years. I appreciate a good knife. I am also a senior at Tusculum College where I am getting my Bachelors in Organizational Management. In a perfect world we could have as many sku's as possible, but we do not live in a perfect world. I would not want a design to continue at the expense of hurting Spyderco. The market ultimately decides what is succesful and what is not. If sales arent enough to justify production then the item must be cut. That is a fact of life.

Keep up the good work.

I have been an LEO for almost 16 years now and the Goddard ltwt is my favorite Spyderco of all time. I carry it daily on duty. I was dissapointed when i found out that it was going to be culled but went ahead and bought a few new ones so i would have a never ending supply and one that was NIB for my knife collection
