For anyone that loves the Wayne Goddard line as much as I do, this may be of concern to you. If you contact Wayne directly, he has all of the micarta Spyderco/Goddards in stock, plus he has the only micarta Goddard Jr.'s in PLAIN EDGE that I know of (thanks Sal)! I ordered my plain edge Goddard Jr., took me about 1 second to make up my mind whether to purchase one or not! Mine should be here this Saturday, the 17th. I'll report on it. Here's Wayne Goddard's info:

C18 plain edge: $99. plus $6.00 shipping.

Visa or MasterCard accepted.

Sal, after talking with Wayne via email, I have a question for you. Since all the micarta versions of the Goddard line are being phased out, with only the full-size ltwt.'s remaining on, could you possibly make a batch of ltwt. Baby Goddards in plain edge? It would be cheaper than the current micarta version, and IMHO, would be the best and safest (due to the handle's design) "key chain" knife out on the market. Wayne also told me he mentioned a Goddard Jr. ltwt. for production once. Maybe that would be hard to do with all the SKU's of Spyderco knives in that size range. But, that would be nice, too! Basicly, since I feel so greatly about the do-it-all capabilities of the Goddard design, I would like to see more Spyderco's made in the future with his design. Whether it be G-10 variants of the full-size Goddard and Goddard Jr., or a ltwt. variant of the Baby Goddard, or a ltwt. variant of the Goddard Jr., I would like more Goddards!!!

Baby Goddard batches are not out of the question. Just depends on demand (orders).

We've considered a lite weight Jr. Tooling costs are very high. Difficult to make more than one at the most two lite weights per year. This year we have the Calypso Jr & Dyad Jr. These two increase the variety more than a smaller version of an existing design. Wayne is a great designer and if we get enough requests for a lite wieght Jr, we'll no doubt make one. Little by little, we progress.

Are plain-edge C16s out of the question? I gather only the lightweights and Juniors have been done plain-edge so far.

I received my plain edge micarta C18 Goddard Jr. today, direct from Wayne & Phyllis Goddard. It came in a black, zippered, padded, vinyl case with a gold spyder logo on it. It's just like the combo Jr., but the green really stands out in the micarta and it's numbered! Also, my combo Goddard Jr.'s were made with GIN-1 steel, this plain edge version has G-2. For a big Goddard fan like me, this is a great day! Once again, thanks for directing me to the Goddards for this knife, Sal. Thanks Wayne & Phyllis for your great service and for having a knife for me!

Savman,

What's the difference between GIN-1 and G-2? I thought they're the same?

It is the same steel. A G-2 marking just indicates earlier production, before the manufacturer made a name change to Gingami-1 (?), I understood it was something about giving the designer more credit. Great stuff, either way. Not super edge-holding but very flexible and easy to sharpen. Still curious whether it wasn't better-suited to the Civilian than the new ATS-55.

Thanks Corduroy, you beat me to it! Yes, the G-2 is the earlier production name for GIN-1, from what I understand, too. I've also wondered if GIN-1 would be better in the Civilian...well, time to go eyeball my new C18 plain edge again
