Okay, I'm confused now.

I thought that maybe after the 1940s the old "tradition" would go away, but it has persisted. I wish I could say education eradicates such ugly thoughts, but then again, EU countries receive quality education just like Americans and Canadians.

No, I am not Jewish, but does it matter?

You're religion does not matter in the least.

I had expected more intolerance in the old Soviet Union/Eastern Europe areas as the Soviet Union only collapsed in 1991, and the Mid East and North Africa due to the significance that religion plays in self identity and of course Israel's existence. But, most of the rest of the world was a rude surprise. Especially Japan, which has been a historic sanctuary through the end of WWII.

I think I'll stay put right here in the US. 9% still sucks when you're only 1.2% of the population, but it's better odds most of the world.

Yeah, sounds like Europe is going back in time. Here's another report, from Tel Aviv University.

At about 2:06 they start talking with everyday modern Eastern Europeans, including children:

The kids remind me a lot of the teasing/bullying (commie fa**ot!) I took growing up during the Reagan administration with a very obviously Russian surname. I hope history spares my kids the same experience.

I'd be curious to see how a lot of the same people (excluding MENA) view Muslims, as the Middle East is much in the news today. Antisemitism specifically vs generalized xenophobia vs convenient scapegoat.

It seems as if the scapegoat status slightly shifts, at least in the US: http://www.splcenter.org/home/2012/spring/fbi-bias-crimes-against-muslims-remain-at-high-levels

That would jive with my own experiences. The "commie" insults tapered off shortly after Reagan left office. Oddly enough the anti-semitic insults got worse. There were several decidely schadenfreudian classmates I would have gladly introduced to Vlad Țepeș. I can only conclude that the haters hadn't changed, but the rationalization had.

It seems that the primary underlying cause is socially sanctioned scapegoating with xenophobia as a justification, and specific anti-semitism as a steering factor (I hate them for perceived xxx so you should hate them too). When is say xenophobia, I'n referring to the Wikipedia definition of "a fear of losing identity, suspicion of its activities, aggression, and desire to eliminate its presence to secure a presumed purity."

Woo Hoo!
Reading the CNN and USA Today articles for background, this is one scary dude. Serial offender (armed robbery, property crimes), despite being fairly intelligent, became radicalized during his last prison stay, and headed to Syria shortly after being released. It's just dumb luck the the French customs cops found him before a second attack. From the amount of hardware he was carrying adn the distance he had traveled, it looks like he was planning Beltway Sniper shoot-and-scoot type campaign.

I don't put much faith in polls, especially when I can see reason for bias or prejudice in the sponsor. Anyway, this subject is inherently political, especially in the interests behind these polls. I'm going to close this. If you can find someone to open the topic in the Political Arena, or convince other moderators to consider reopening it, I wouldn't mind.
