We can't be too careful when afield

Sad srory.
I had read a few years ago that "falls" like this were the leading cause of injury and deaths to people in the outdoors.

Always sad to read these stories. The mountain sides here can be very treacherous, and I always advise people unfamiliar with the area to move with caution when off trails even in the day time and if lost at night to just sit and wait it out. Sticks and debris can cover gaps between rocks and look like solid ground, when in reality it is a thin layer of debris disguising a long drop to jagged rocks.

I found a guy who fell once. He did it on purpose though. Former Nols Instructor.

karma aside, I was really wanting to point out that the need to be careful when afield never stops. Not paying attention, and carelessness has caused a useless loss of a young life, and should at least serve as a reminder of the fact that nature is not Disney World.
