We Couldn't Get Much Higher

Except for a little herb at night the only thing I take is aspirin, but I can't remember the last time I took one. Kind of amazing at my age, in this day and age. What cracks me up is all the TV commercials for drugs where they tell you to tell your Doctor about the drug they're advertising as well as what other drugs you're taking.....uhhhhh isn't your Doctor supposed to know that already?

It's a sick world we live in.

Right, why go to a doctor who needs second hand info from a TV ad?

A while ago, the government banned Rezulin, a drug I was taking and said we should switch to another, Avandia. My doctor was furious. He had already told me he was going to switch me to Avandia, but was waiting until the manufacturer could get a good supply out to the pharmacies.

The government jumped too fast and most likely left some people without access to either medication. I guess the FDA was going by the TV ads ...

Troglitazone (Rezulin®, Resulin® or Romozin®) is a member of the drug class of the thiazolidinediones. It was introduced in the late 1990s but turned out to be associated with an idiosyncratic reaction leading to drug-induced hepatitis. It was withdrawn from the USA market on 21 March 2000, and from other markets soon afterwards.
On behalf of the world of medicine, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience.

The flip side of your coin is the person who died or suffered liver damage in 1998 or 1999 from rezulin. They or their family could wonder why it took so long for the FDA to remove it from the market since they knew about since 1997.

Actos was available shortly after its approval on July 15, 1999
Avandia was also approved in the last half of 1999. As soon as alternate therapy was found and they were certain the alternates wouldn't cause the same problem at the same rate; they asked for rezulin to be removed. All this information is available on the FDA website. ;)

I think that is why the DARE program pretty much flopped. It was a wee bit hypocritical to be warning kids of the dangers of becomming dependant on drugs. Considering how many kids are snowed on Ritalin and seeing thier mom, dad and grandparents pop countless OTC and prescription pills. Then hearing thier parents make comments like "I need my coffee, beer, chocolate, cigs" etc. Even kids have the inate ability to spot "BS" when they see it.

Mixed signals produced mixed up kids.
