Holy crap. Is that a platypus?

Between the tai pans, browns, tigers, sea snakes, box jellies, stone fish, funnel web spiders, and bulldog ants (including the infamous jack jumpers), how the hell do y'all keep out of the emergency rooms?

Which brings us back to the platypus-- even the mammals are poisonous downunder.

Hey gaj, I've always been curious about this myself. Are there a lot of bite victims from all the poisonous wildlife down there? Are you guys afraid to stick your hands into a dimly lit corner?

Lots of people get bitten, eaten, stung, slashed and generally irritated by the flora and fauna all the time but there are very few deaths. Most deaths from snakebite tend to be from idiots trying to kill them with shovels and things. A few get eaten by sharks now and then while surfing and, of course, there is always a tourist or two that decides to feed themselves to the crocs. Generally with the spider bites you get at least 30 minutes or more to get to the hospital. No big deal.

Thanks for emailing me the larger pic! That's one big ol' snake. He goes all the way off the pic to the left.

Oz has more venomous than nonvenomous snakes doesn't it? Would that be an Amethystine Python?

Did he eat that whole kangaroo (wallaby, maybe?)? Do you have any pics of that?

-And if you're e-mailing bigger pics... Help a tortoise out! :D

I sent off the bigger pic to those that asked, if you didn't get it let me know and I'll resend.

I don't know what type of snake it is unfortunately, I'm no expert in that area, I suspect a python of some sort, the poisonous ones don't tend to be that big as a general rule.

RE-ceived! Thank you, that is a fantastic shot!!

The resolution, even below the water line is just amazing. What's the story behind the shot, did you take it and what were ya' shootin' with? :D

Any of the non-Aussies here ever read Bryson's In a Sunburned Country? Good book on the land down under. More recently I've heard him spout some of his lefty politics that I could live without, but geez if I had to like them personally there'd be few authors and next to no musicians to enjoy.

As much as I'd like to take credit for the pic. I can't, I'm not that good. It was sent to me and, unfortunately, I have no further details other than it was taken in the Kimberlys.

You can see a bit more about the Kimberly region here.
