WE has come out with a slip joint knife made with S35VN, titanium, and carbon fiber. To my eye it most closely resembles a single-blade trapper pattern. Pretty pricey but I think I like it! Does anyone have one, and if so, what do you think of it?

I was wondering where that had got to, went silent after the announcement at blade show.

I'm looking forward to reviews, especially what the grind behind the edge is, traditionally (pardon the pun) the failing of modern knife companies when they try making traditionals.

An interesting comparison might be to the Case Backpocket in 154cm. Similar in many ways though to be frank the Case looks better to my eye than the above which is rather what you would expect if the design guidelines went along the lines of 'design us a tactical trapper'. :D

It looks more "modern materials" than "tactical" to me. I was initially concerned that I shouldn't post it in this forum, but then I remembered the Lionsteel barlows were okay here, and they are modern takes on a traditional pattern too.

Hmm, not sure about that, I had a CF Lionsteel Barlow and it was not tactical but the above does have the whiff of tacti-cool about it, the blacked out Ti and of course the entirely blacked out version they make of it. That said, it's still a trapper and still fits the criteria of a traditional in this guise. It's just rather obvious what they're used to designing. :D

It passes for a slip joint  I'm a little confused why the need to black it out.
Satin polish the blade and bolsters then the C/F or wood handles would stand out more.
As it is  fugly.

I am glad that production companies are taking swings at offering traditional-ish non-locking folders, but I just wish it wasn't freaking gigantic. It is well outside the legal limit in my town.

All gray - not an attractive knife to my eyes. They missed the boat re traditional.

Exactly, the pattern reminds me of a Texas jack with one blade but overall they missed the mark.
I like the pattern and blade, but if only they had at the very least went with say a white paper micarta it would look nicer. They could leave the blade as is if the bolsters were polished and the scales were something not so dark.
My opinion doesn't matter though because I'd never buy it no matter what , the COO and all of the materials are turnoffs for me.

There is also a version with an uncoated blade. I think it would look fantastic with some highly figured burl, or desert ironwood.

I love single bladed slip joints but the use of screws and carbon fiber doesn't cut it for me.

It's probably a fantastic knife, but it just looks too modern for my tastes.
If I want something that looks that modern, I'll just go ahead and enjoy ALL the benefits of a full modern knife.

I like the fact that you can disassemble, makes clean a little easier.
I wish it were a little smaller, I would prefer a 3" blade.
If I were spending that much I would go with a J.E. Made Lanny.
Nice to see more traditional options from makers.

I agree a sub 3" blade would be more welcome also no recurve...otherwise it is good to see them reaching out like that.
