We Lost a Great Knife Guy

Thanks W Wavicle

Not everyone makes it over to the Community center to see this type of thing.
Everyone is free to leave thoughts here or in Community Center or both- I'm alright with this being here. Derrick was a great guy and was very sad to hear of his passing.

Godspeed Derrick Bohn

I did not know him personally but have done business with his company plenty of times and it was one of the best places online to purchase knives from.

Condolences to his family and friends, all I knew was that he began the process of relocating the business before I received the email about his passing, completely unexpected and tragic.

Too young and too good. Happiness over the pursuit of pleasures; he knew. Taught it, too.

My first experience with his company was a double down on beautiful Bravo 1.25's decked out in fancy woods. After my purchase, Derrick sent me an email to notify me about the member reward points and encouraged me to create an account. I sent him back a one-liner like, Oh great I'm already out 6,000+ points! Those 6000+ points were in my account next login.

He'll be missed by many in his extended knife family for his generosity and much more.

He always left me with the impression, that he was one of the good guys. My condolences to his family & may he R.I.P.

In a recent video posted on YouTube from late April he explained that while in Oregon he was a pastor and began selling stuff on eBay with his wife as a way to supplement their income. It then became apparent that he was doing good with knives and he really liked knives and the whole thing evolved from there. He was one of the first online sellers to actually have the knives in his stock as opposed to drop-shipping from a wholesaler. I did not know that but it sure puts things in perspective how he valued and treated customers based on his beliefs and former occupation. I always smiled when that Christmas card came with a personal note hand written by Derrick-- to think that I was important enough for him to take the time.

I really hope his wife Wendy and the children do well in their move to Tennessee.

Sad news indeed. Derek was definitely my kind of knife geek. There was an enthusiasm and warmth is his public self that came across as genuine, honest and welcoming. I really appreciated doing business with KSF and bought a couple of my CRKs from his shop. Can’t think of anyone quite like Derek in the cutlery community. A big hole has been left by his passing.

I didn’t know Derek on a personal level but he was a great guy to do business with. He had to be a special guy for his employees to make that move with him to the U.P. of MI.

I wish the best for his family and employees.
