We need a new moderator here

Sorry Dex, but one of the reasons I joined this forum is to learn all about the new things manufacturers had to offer. You used to do a really FINE job of that but, life has taken a different turn for you and that is understandable. Most of the "what's new" posts are driven by knuts and not the mod anymore, so I would like to see the inertia overcome, and get on with it. This forum has become darn near useless for greater than a year, and IMHO that needs to change.

P.S. I'm really sorry it came to this posting, but I've been thinking about it for over 6 months, and "it's time."

In my opinion moderators has a different function on this or any other forum, which is rather supervising, not providing the news. Of course those are welcome from anyone, but I wouldn't take that for granted.
Dex did what he could in terms of the news, but a) that's not the moderator's responsibility, b) not always doabel to get the news first.

I don't particularly care who owns the problem, but there is one. This forum used to have many more posts on new products. Now, I'm more likely to read about new stuff in print. The descriptor for this forum says it's a place for manufacturers to announce new products, that's different from asking forumites to do it--there are other places for us to post.

It may not be up to the moderator to start all the threads, but someone needs to prod the company's marketing departments to post here, if they're not willing to do so voluntarily. It will take some effort, as most companies don't update their own sites with sufficient regularity.

I think historically Dex had the inside track on info and the time to post here, and he was made mod by default. But, as pointed out, no real new info gets posted here anymore.

My suggestion would be to contact all the manufacturers and ask them to post info here, or, pretty much ignore the forum, which is what I do.

How much is Dex getting paid to do this nowadays?

:p :p :p

I don't think you can blame Dexter for new releases not getting posted in this forum. Makers and manufacturers could easily post here. That said, I'd like to see Dexter post more just because he knows his stuff.

O.K., but how do we go about that? Like many said we pick up the new stuff in print or from websites (knifecenter.com has a daily "news" section). Now my next question is, how many of you have actually posted anything "new" here?

Is Dex even around anymore? Look at the sticky. He's promising sensory overload from SHOT but I think that was the last of his posts. That happened last year too. Our hopes are lifted before a big show but then nothing. For a long time this was my favorite forum.

Any of us are capable of posting info on new releases.

Yes. . .Dex had an inside track on releases before they were released. And he was good enough to post what he could.

But. . .that didn't/doesn't make him solely responsible for posting info on new releases.

Due to his good heartedness he's now required to post new release info. I think not ! :(

Again. . .any of us are capable of posting info on new releases.

Any volunteers? :) Anyone can do it! If you see a report on a dealer or manufacturer website, post it here. In fact, what I think has happened is, a lot of that gets posted in the Blade Discussion Forum or the manufacturers' forums themselves -- we do have a lot of them, now.

What Dexter was able to give us was a run-down on whole new product lines, with pictures. That was great but naturally tended to center around major shows, because that's when the manufacturers knew they had our attention for new products.

What I do is subscribe to this forum and set my browser to come up on BFC on User CP, so the first thing I see is if there's anything new. If not, off to the general discussion.

I agree with most of the above; Dex did an unbelievable job before, doing far more than he could have been expected to. Now that he doesn't have time to do that, or whatever, he shouldn't be punished for his previous extra hard work!

Did you guys READ my initial post??!! Now I'm PUNISHING him?! WTF :barf

You used to do a really FINE job of that but, life has taken a different turn for you and that is understandable.

MAYBE someone might be able to do more because they have the time, and perhaps an inside track.

MAYBE some of the manufacturers might read this and get someone in their marketing departments to post here!

MAYBE I'll run down to Lowe's real quick and by a super-duty claw hammer to pull the nails out of my feet and right hand, while my left is still free! :footinmou

Who the hell is Dex, and where did he go???...(Did you'se guys scare him away?)..
