Yup!!
Last Saturdy we, my wife and me, went to Springield Missouri to the Grizzly Ind. Showroom!!
I am really impressed with what I saw there. I bought one of their buffers and got to bring it home.
I also bought several buffing wheels and some grinding belts and other supplies.

They were out of the Knife
Grinder Belt Sander/Buffer, but I prepaid one and it should be here in about 3-4 weeks.
I was really impressed with the appearance of the quality in their equipement. If it's as good as it looks it is really gonna be something!! That includes everything I saw!! Some of their wood working equipement was phenominal !! Even their cheaper, smaller things like in the wood lathes appeared to be very well made.

I am sure glad that someone offers such a nice looking belt grinder for the amount of money that a hobbiest can afford. The machine looks really well made and is heavily constructed. The platen is about 1/4" thick and looks substantial enough to actually use as is. After I get to use it some I will probably be back asking for suggestions.
Allen Blade said one of his videos shows most of the modifications he made to his. I may have to get that video!!

I probably won't get into knifemakeing big time, but since this is something I have enjoyed since I was a kid it will be nice to be able to make some knives along without the hassles of using an old bench grinder and files.
The first ones on my list is a set of kitchen knives for my sweet wife who kept asking if there was anything else I needed to get and if there was I should go ahead and get it. Now what more could a man ask for??

Hey!

The new showroom in Springfield is great! I've been there several times since they opened. Hey, did they still have the wooden vases? Man they are something to see!

I just ordered a knife sander from them today on the phone. Hope to get it soon.

If you ever get east of Springfield about 80 miles, come by and see me. I'm south of a little town called Norwood about 17 miles!

I have a few Grizzly tools; all are well made and very sturdy. I've had the knife belt sander on order for almost a month now; I was told 4-6 weeks when I ordered it and yesterday I was told it would be another 4 to 6 weeks!

Ryan that really is some bad news!!
I wonder if the tools are imported into the east or wst coast. I imagine the west since they come from Taiwan.
The salesman I talked with said that they were really behind on several items.
I saw several of the belt sanders with the "temporarily out of stock" tags on them.

I hope you get yours sooner than that as well as myself.
I believe it is gonna be worth the wait though.
I really like they way their machine tools are built!!

Khukuri FAQ

Hey guys,
I just called their 800 number yesterday to place my order and they said they showed the Pennsylvania showroom as having one in stock. I didn't want to pay $42 for shipping and chose instead to have one shipped to Springfield to pick up there.

If you just can't wait, you might try this out!

Well I must have gotten the one from PA.
Yup. I just checked the CF packing list and it was shipped the 7th.
I got it this moring. If I hadn't of had to get my car serviced yesterday I would have had it then.
I got it assembled and am really amazed at the quietness of the machine.
Now if its stand would just get here I would be in business.

I have forgotten the suface speed of the belt and I haven't measured the drive wheel to figure it yet, but the 1 horsepower motor runs 1725. It tracks nicely also. The platen is graphite coated I believe it said. Would there be any benefit to getting a hard tool steel platen made for it?
When I make something I like for it to be nice and I don't mind spending another buck or two on it to make it better.

I truly believe that it will make a real nice hobbie machine.
Now to get Allen's video to see what he done to his Grizz.

Ryan were you told about the one in PA?
That's kinda strange that they told you it would take that long when there was one in stck at another store.
The $42.00 wasn't that much more than driving my old Ford back to Springfield, let alone the time involved.

Yvsa,

Let's just say I'm not too thrilled with Grizzly. I'm glad you got your grinder, but I may be going with a Coote.

Okay, Grizzly's back on my good side.

I'm still going with the Coote, and I cancelled my order for the Grizzly sander, but I'll still be getting a motor from them, and their technical support guy (Bo) was very good about answering all of my questions. And the motor's made in the USA to boot!

Hello,

As for the Graphite Coated Plated,,,,GET RID OF IT!!!!! the Graphite that is, And if the platen isnt Flat,, Surface it or make a new one, That baby has to be Flat to do a
Flat ground blade. I used the SUpports from my old Platten and Spot welded a Hardened 5160 1/4 Surfaced Platten in its place. Maintain it with a Bastard file and it will last and grind True for years.

My .02

I've had my grizzly for about 1 year now and find it to be a fine piece of equipment. I also have their small metal cutting band saw. Take your time with the assembly and set-up and all should go well.
