weak detent on Strider SMF

I've got a Strider SMF Tanto that I've had as my EDC for about 5 months, and I am having a bit of concern with the detent. Strider claims that they use "a stronger detent than most" so what mine is doing is making me wonder if I should send it in.

If I hold the knife closed, with the blade down, and gently flick my wrist down with a very small amount of force, the blade will fall free of the handle, and lock open. I do not touch the blade while doing this, the weight of the blade itself overrides the detent with just a small amount of downward motion.

When looking down into the knife at the detent ball, it looks as if it has a flat spot in it. I can't help but think that this is not supposed to be like this. I've never disassembled the knife, and other than occasional lock stick, I have no other complaints.

Any advice?

If the detent ball looks flat and it looks like the track on the blade is wide, then you'll need to send it in for repairs. I don't think tightening up on the pivot screw will help much

The SMF Lego I have is blade heavy and if I loosen the pivot enough the blade can fall out with very little force. I agree that the detent ball might have gotten flattened or pushed into the lock though, good call.

I just inspected it and saw that the track does look pretty wide. Plus, the detent ball definitely looks flattened. I'll have to go ahead and send it in.

Thanks guys.
