Weak detent?

So I've had a 0561 for awhile but haven't carried it much. It has a weak detent and was wondering how safe that is for carry? It doesn't just fall open but from passed flippers it feels weak to me. I might just sell it and get a 940 :D

Hinderer designs in general have a weak detent. Unless you can gravity knife it, you're pretty safe. My 0561 has a weak detent compared to say my Brous Bionic or ZT 0801, but it doesn't fall out.

Honestly I am surprised to hear that yours has a weak detent. While this is usually true of actual hinderer knives the 0560 was actually designed as a flipper only. Even though it has blade stops that can act as a thumbstud the company has been clear that they didnt use them in the 560 for that purpose. Most of these knives came with a considerably strong hold to the detent. Did you purchase this knife new or was it used? The reason I ask is many people tend to tweak the lockbar on knives to adjust the action to their preferences and its possible that could have been done if you bought it second hand. Still I would think as long as you put the knife in your pocket tip up with the blade riding the inside edge of your pocket you have little to worry about. If however you want a stiffer action you can send it in to ZT and see if they can tweak it. Or you could do it yourself.

Another thing to think about is your knife may just not be properly aligned. If you look at the detent area when the knife is closed and see the lockbar is not sitting flush to the blade the ball might not be lined up with the hole. To try and correct this loosen the screws in the handle on both sides as well as the pivot screw. The pivot screw should only be slightly backed off. Then with the knife closed put pressure on the lockbar pushing the detent ball into the blade. While holding it like that tighten the pivot and handle screws back down. Hopefully any tolerance variance would have helped align the parts and allow the detent ball to grab. If not then a slight lockbar tweak is the next option. You would need to disassemble the knife and slightly (and I mean very slightly. Maybe a 1mm increase in bend of the lockbar if that, and this will increase its grip dramatically.

I bought it brand new and haven't tweaked anything. Maybe I just expect a stronger one when it's already fine.. I don't care for frame locks and flippers though so maybe it's just not my thing.

While I don't know anything about your knife, I accidentally broke the lock on my leek and now it's an assisted with weak detent.
It's come out of my pocket half cocked maybe 1/100 times. Not too bad, but it's unnerving everytime. This only happens coming out of pocket so maybe I'm grabbing it wrong and hitting the flipper on the way out.

I'd give it a go for another week before swapping it out.

Well you struck out on all accounts buying that knife.

That's been about the most common complaint here about the 0560/1 series. Their detents seem to be all over the place as far as tightness goes.

I've had two that were perfect, flipper or thumb stud. If yours is weak I'd send it back for proper repair or exchange.

Hope you don't sell it because they really are good knives. I think you'll find one with proper detent to be a pleasure to own if you wanted one in the first place. Probably be a classic some day.

EDIT: Man, if that's all you paid for it get it right and keep it !!!

I payed 135$ for it brand new though:D

That's what I payed for mine as well. However, you spent $135 more than you should on a knife whose primary features you dislike. No matter what how good of a deal it is if it's something you don't like then you spent too much.

My suggestion: Sell it and buy something you actually like.

This happened to me; It took me many knives and about 6 months to figure out that I don't like thumb studs, assisted open, or axis locks. I'm not hugely keen on frame/liner locks, but I can live with them. I have ten folders, one with a thumbstud, the rest flippers and spydie holes (and one traditional).
