Weak springs on a 301 - comments?

Just bought a 301 form SMKW - everything is fine about it, except the fact that the blade springs are weak. Stockman's are my favorite pattern, and the springs on this one are definitely not at the tension level of any of my other brands.

Quality issue? Should I call Buck and send it in? I love the grind on the blades - I'd really hate to let this one go, after waiting so long to get one.

Am I being picky, or has anyone else here had the same kind of issue?

thx - cpr

Honestly, I would send it in. I collect 300s and I love the knives but I have said before that Camillus contract knives with carbon steel back springs are, in that one regaurd better knives. Two carbon back springs seem to work better than three stainless ones. If yours is mooshy send it in. How else will they know that they are making mooshy knives, after all.

Send it back to SMKW; why should you have to wait for Buck to get around to fixing or replacing it?

+1 on everything will said.

None of my 3 spring 301's are bad, but they do not have the snap of a 2 spring 301.

Thanks guys -

I just realized that all of the knives I compared this one to are two-spring knives. One wouldn't think that there would be a difference in tension between a two-spring and three-spring Stockman. I wonder why? Any thoughts? None of my Congress patterns show any difference.

I'm going to call Buck this afternoon, and then let SMKW know as well. Whoever can deal with the issue first is the one I'll send it to; that will probably be SMKW.

I'd bet on SMKW too; its been more than 11 weeks since I mailed off a knife to Buck and I've heard nothing back.

. . . so I ordered a replacement.

(edits mine) I'd do that, as I wouldn't mind having two 301's anyway (one can never have too many Bucks ;) ) but I'm a little concerned about the spring issue showing up in another 301. But, I guess I don't have much choice anyway? I suppose I could try my luck on another, and if it doesn't work out, I could always send it back for credit.
