I looked around and couldn't find anything, but without the search feature I may have missed a previous post. Please excuse me if this question has been asked before!

I have a close friend who's graduating from RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) training in a few months and I would like to purchase a gift for him. Now, I would like to know if anyone here knows the laws regarding Canadian Federal Police and what they are allowed to carry on the job. From what I have read, he can carry pretty much anything he wants including automatics as long as he supplies a safe sheathing system for the knife. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if anyone has any reccomendations, that would be excellent! I was thinking of a Black Class Benchmade Auto. Hooks to remove seatbelts, or glass breakers would be a huge plus.

Thanks!

A multitool is a good tool for an LEO , most carry one , I dont believe any are issued . A good locking folder like a Spyderco Delica or Endura would be a good gift , many Canadian LEO's carry a folder of some type . Do you know where his first posting will be ? I dont believe their are any statutory problems , dont know how his detachment commander would react . A Leatherman with his name and badge # would be a good gift , ditto for a SAK . An Auto wouldnt be a good idea , While in law he can carry a prohibited weapon , it would have to be with the blessing of his superiors ( unlikley to be forthcomming) , specially for a rookie constable . The leatherman TTI has a belt cutting hook , the breakers on knives are mostly inferior to a good spring loaded center punch . If he is being sent to an isolation posting , a good FB might not be a bad idea ( depending on the posting , and his detachment commander ) . Sorry to rain on your parade , but as a new probationary constable , he wants to fly below the radar . Once he becomes an established member of the team , he will have a lot more latitude .

A good LED flashlight like a Surefire , or an Innova would be a truly usefull gift - get his name and badge # engraved on it .

Best of luck to him in his career !

Chris

Thank you very much! Great info, and no, I would prefer real advice to fluff even if it means 'raining on my parade' hehe.

Yeah, I hear it time and time again from people in the field that a good flashlight is the best gift you can get a new officer.

Thanks again for the reccomendations!
