I have a DPMS LR-308B and have a Nikon Scope for long range shooting. I am looking at getting something for shorter ranges(100-200m) to interchange with the Nikon. Both will be on LaRue Swing Arm Mounts and am thinking about a Trijicon RX30 Reflex and a few others of similar design. Are these a good choice for this application?

PS. I'm trying not to spend over $500. The RX30 is $530, no biggie. But, some other designs are around $700+. To much for me.

Look at the Aimpoints. For close in shooting (<200 yards) the Aimpoint's work much better then most people expect them too. EoTech's are good too but, I find the Aimpoints to be cheaper overall and more to my liking.

The cheaper Trijicon scopes are worth considering too if you want to stay with a true scope optic in the 4x or less power range.

For any choice, illuminated reticles should be a priority IMHO.

That including a mount?

You can get a Aimpoint CompM3 for around $530, cheaper then dirt has them listed for under 500 (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AIM11403-34.html) so that means you can find them for less then that.

LaRue has a M2 with mount for $545 (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=18) keep in mind that your getting a top notch mount with that whereas the others you'd need to find a good mount for it.

Larue also has a ML3 with mount for $552 (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=20)

And a ML2 with mount for $501 (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=184)

Or if you were willing to go $100 over your budget you could get a Aimpoint T1 with either the regular LaRue mount or an angle mount so you could use it with your exsisting optic.

Now on the flip side theres several EOTech sights you can get for your budget with LaRue mounts.

The 511 with mount (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=13]

The 512 with mount (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=16)

And at 559 the XPS with mount (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=379)

Thanks for the help Sid Post and MutedRaccoon. The Aimpoints look like the choice, although the EOtechs look nice as well. I do like the rubber coating on the Aimpoints as well, which give them a durability edge.

The "Bras" on the aimpoints can be replaced as they are only covers if thats what your referring to.

After reading your first post again if your planning to have both optics on at the same time go with a Aimpoint T1 on a Larue angle mount so all you need to do to transition from long to short range is slightly tilt the rifle (or your head).

I think someone on the exchange is selling an Aimpoint Comp M2 on Larue mounts. I will go double check after I post, (in case I just got everything I said wrong :o )
Yep, still there, not sure I'm allowed to link it or not, but its lower than your $500
