Just picked this up today from an old English collection, I love the work on it & it is rather lethal, I realy wouldnt want to be a working Elephant. Thought some of you guys might want to see it.

I Guess some martial artists would love it as it has a lots of varoied possibilities.

Often called an Ankus or Goad this is the real working type that was used by the Mahoots in the timber trade rather than the tourist & show pieces one sees in the west more often.

I can picture a few of those varied possibilites right now. Thanks for sharing. Very nice piece.

Yep it is heavy, nearly 32 oz. They could have made a big kukri out of the same amount of steel.

I guess if your going to spank an elephant you need a bit of oompph in it.

Hmm, no idea how it would handle for the weight. Do you think it could have made a competent weapon against a human opponent, or is it generally too unwieldy? Might be more effective on an opponent weighed down by armour methinks.

Thanks Steely, Tedwica, i Do hunt high & lo for my toys. ;)

C.S. well if you could hold it youd see the possibilities, presuming you know about such things. {Not a put down but I dont know your background?}

The balance point is at centre point, {the lower ring marking under the checkering,} so it Feels balanced like a plain steel bar. {better grip though.} So one would use it like a center grip batton, not a nightstick, with the added penetrating, hooking lokking capabilities.

Id walk into trouble with it, it would work, So would a mahoot but they carry & use them 12 or 18 hours a day so there like an extension of there physical bodies to them.

It would work better againgt skin,,muscle & bone than armour. More sort of control restraint & general body piecing & hooking, than anything else, but shaw it would puncture chain mail, {if anyone still wears it?}

Ak47s & V.40 greanades are better weapons, so is a halon spray , but it would work.easily efficeintly & well {& yes I do know the differance, as per long term real life expieeriance.}

Ahh, I got ya. Just takes a grip near the center of balance. Okay. I was imagining a conventional grip for added reach, but that WOULD be unwieldy.

I saw a similar, but probably lighter version somewhere which was a martial arts version of a similar type of goad. Not as good for prodding elephants, but probably even better for prodding humans.

Ouch. I can't imagine the pain removing it after the elephant took it away from me and shoved it all the way up my **** for making him mad :eek:

Double ouch!... no wonder elephants tend to go postal from time to time :eek:

very cool looking though :)

Great find Spiral! A really unique addition to your trove.

Now you just need to find an elephant to try it out on! In fact, I can just see the headline now:

"Famous English Arms and Armour Collector Mysteriously Trampled to Death by Enraged Rogue Elephant! Several women faint dead away at the horrific event. Our special correspondent describes the grisly scene."

A stunned Royal Zoo worker gave this exclusive interview to our man:

"But Snuffles had always been such a calm elephant! Giving the children rides, eating his greens, not a care in the world! And then that nice young man went for a ride and snuffles just went mad! It was really terrible to watch the poor man get so brutally crushed like that."

On a related note, an emergency fire truck was dispatched to assist, but was unable to reach the blood-soaked scene as its front tire was ruptured by a large sharpened and ornately decorated piece of steel which was somehow hurtled from the trampling site. Authorities are investigating.

:D

:eek::thumbup: Very good Norm! :D I see the medications working well. ;) They must be good! Please post me some soon! :cool:

Wouldnt realy want to try in on an Elephant, Ive read about how they break them in, I dont realy like it. I dont like zoos & circuses and all that either. Id eat most animals, but I prefer them to have a natural life & a quick kill when possible.

If you type Elephant attack into youtube you can see what happens when "broken elephants" go postal in India. ;)
