Wear on BM42?

Greetings,

with the upcoming ban of balisongs here in Germany I have started getting an interest in this kind of knives. Since it will take a few weeks for the law to pass, I am thinking about buying a BM42 while I still have the chance.

Once the law is passed, I will of course dutifully break, dismantle and melt down this horrible weapon of mass destruction threatening our national security.

However, I would still like to know how the BM42 holds up to long-time wear. I have heard that balisongs get loose after a while. Is that true, and would it be possible to adjust for this with the torx screws?

Not that I will face the problems of long-time wear, after all, I will only own the knife for a few weeks. But I like quality.

How is the quality of BM42s in general? Benchmade is supposed to have QC problems occasionally, and as I have to buy the knife online, I will not be able to check it before purchase.

Thanks for any answers,
Kristofer

They are what they are all hyped up to be. I've had mine for a year. I've used it to cut and manipulate. When I clean it up and give the joints a little oil its just like new.:)

WHAT? This is a shame. They will be banned to carry or to posess? I was thinking that Germany is the most liberal European country about knives. This sucks. :(

Kristofer,
I received my BM42 about a month ago and I'm thrilled with it. It is the first bali I've owned so I suppose I'm a bit spoiled. The only other one I've messed with was a piece of junk, Chinese made bali that my son bought a couple of years ago. Sorry to hear about your troubles, re: banned balis.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like I have to get one then.

Maybe we are lucky here and the new law gets changed somewhat before it is passed, they have already dropped a few restrictions against autos that were proposed some months ago. If nothing gets changed, even owning a balisong will be a crime.

Flava, I believe Austria has the most liberal knife laws, at least they can have all the autos we do not get here.
It is election time in Germany next year, and with kitchen knives being the murder weapon no. 1, banning balisongs is obviously a great way of fighting crime for the government.
