I was curious how well your black coated Emerson's wear under normal use. I bought this 2001 7 used and it seems like an excessive amount of wear.

Based on the edge, I'm pretty sure it was sharpened by the previous owner (it feels like a zero grind) and I'm assuming the wear is from the sharpening.

So if you could post pictures of yours, it would be much appreciated.

That wear line/edge looks too clean and uniform to come from random cuts.....Does the blade rub the liner...?

looks to me like someone was sharpening it incorrectly and was honing the side vs the edge, or maybe they stropped it a lot doing the same thing?

what does the back of the blade look like?

also, FWIW, any coating will wear/scuff with use, that knife is worn in an odd way though.

Yeah, I'm aware that any knife with a coating will show it over time. I had just never seen a knife that looked quite like this.

It certainly appears as though the back was sharpened - ruining the chisel grind.

My black coated users don't look quite like that. I'm not sure what to think about that one ?
It could be "natural" wear but it also looks like it could be a failed convex attempt too.

Would you mind posting a picture of your users? I'm considering a couple EKI's and I'm not sure what finish I want. It would help a lot, thanks.

imho someone was trying to sharpen it who didnt know WTF..............

though i prefer satin finish on EKI's some do look better with the black, especially if ya have green G10, i really like the looks of my black tanto bladed green G10 handled SOCFK, for instance, but on most anything else i dont like thye black coating, especially on a knife which is gonna see a lotta use.
