Wearing a Kuk

I have a 18" M-43 that I use around the property. I started wearing it on the left side (I am right handed) sword fashion due to its size, but it was inconvienent to to re-sheath. Tried wearing it on the right side and found that easier to draw and put away.

How do you folks wear yours?

The ghorkas (India)/ghurkas (British) wear theirs to the right of their spines ( backbones, not the khuk's spine ) a couple inches. Over the right hip pocket of their trousers.

The latest phase of the H.I. virus attack on my person has resulted in a urge for me to use long, thin and relatively light khukuries. At the moment that is 20 inch sirupatis. I find that with these it is easier to twist the scabbard on the belt to make removing and returning the khukuri easy compared to other khukuri styles. I think it has something to do with the width of scabbard leather attached to the belt (I am using a normal belt and not a wide military style belt). I have found that the most comfortable carry for these longer khukuries is left front. The pointed brass tip is then pointing forward away from body parts, importantly I am well aware of the position of the sirupati and they don't get snagged when in tight spaces, and removing and returning is easy because I can see what I am doing and they do have a sharp pointy front end to the blade. I have a twenty two inch kobra on the way and I bet left front is where it will also be worn.

I just noticed that there are a couple of kukris from Germany on sale on ebay in about 5 days time. The interesting thing was that they had a couple of nice old photos of Gurkhas on the site. One in particular clearly showed Gurkhas wearing khukuries in the right rear position.

I also remembered that one other reason I like wearing my long khukuries in the left front positon is because it makes it easy to sit down on furniture without digging that sharp brass point into the furniture and raising the ire of my wife. I personally see no problem with holes in leather lounges but my wife seems to object - very unreasonable.
