Wearing precious precious stones as pendants

Pendants are a personal thing. I know because I wear one. I normally wear a jade piece on a string around my neck.

I love the feel of jade. It is smooth, cool to the touch and seems to have a life of its own. I am not superstitious or anything like that.

Jade has got no religious meaning for me but I understand someone people prefer to wear certain crystals. They say it helps improve their personal well-being through enhancement of some frequency.

I wonder what is that? Do you?

My sister-in-law believes in crystals and candles, despite being a very competent nurse.

She has, in fact, given credence to 'New Age' practices and at one time referred to herself as a 'pagan.'

I hope I don't see her one time wandering around in a stupor over some shiny rock chanting, "Precious, my precious."

I'm wearing a nice little piece of gel sugilite in a pouch right now. I don't necessarily think that it has mystical powers, but I enjoy wearing it nonetheless. It's a beautiful indigo color, and I find it soothing to look at and to hold. I have a fairly large collection of crystals and minerals.

I'm partial to Hematite, wife likes to mix and match different stone O's to match her clothes / moods. She seems to like Jade a lot, though.

Yeah, I know how it is with in-laws, but go do a Google and see how many hits you get for "stones" + "properties" when you're done Pagan-bashing. Might be entertained, maybe even learn something.

J&J13,

You can't justify any behavior because it 'get's lots of hits.' I have friends that like 9mm handguns and they justify them by saying "ten million dead Russians can't be wrong."

No matter what your religion, there is a 'good' and a 'bad' side. Which side do your think benefits by getting you to put your faith in dead rocks, dancing nude around a Druid tree, or questioning the existence of a higher power, at all?

You could have a shiny dead crystal as big as your head, do you think it has ethereal power (or any power at all) against fallen Arch Angels?

I don't wear any jewels or crystals, but I have a similar relationship with silver. It just "feels" good to me in a way that doesn't apply to other inanimate materials. Who knows why? :)

My wedding ring is silver. I have another silver ring, given to me by a long-time friend, that I wear on the ring finger of my other hand. I also wear a silver pendant every day. It's a relief-type sculpture of a winged wolf against a crescent moon that was commissioned for me. That has been around my neck every day for almost 25 years.

Tourist, I suggest that you live up to your namesake and visit a few places and learn from the locals before you pass judgement.
In my post, I tried to be neutral, but you're looking for a fight. Cool out and enjoy the pretty rocks.

J&J13, The Tourist isn't a malicious person on the forums. He disagrees with the pagan religion, I disagree with all religion. Let's end it here and not get off topic.

J&J13,

No malicious intent intended. (Boy, say THAT three times fast.)

I know that it's trendy to view other cultures and customs and give a nod of respect and understanding. Your implication is that if I visit the locals I'll open my mind.

However, there's a big difference between experiencing culture and tacitally approving something stupid to appear polite. If I heard the phrase, "Look, daddy, I can make a bigger fire with gasoline," trust me, differing views would end. This is the extreme, to be sure.

Let's keep that slant to knives, since this is a knife forum. I don't know how many times I've read a thread marked, "What's a good knife for defense?" Even the older guys will chime in, naming a knife, when we should advise the youth to get his head screwed on straight before making any purchase.

If you like shiny rocks, terrific. My wife likes lapidary stuff, and we visit a lot of caves in South Dakota.

If she ever asked me about salvation, I doubt I would offer, totems, rocks, secret handshakes, chanting or moon dancing.

I make finger-looped braids that make nice neck lanyards, I have one with a sterling silver pendant in the shape of a Chivas Regal bottle, sometimes I wear a shark tooth or a necklace made from fish vertebrae.

I have lanyards with seashells, crystals, stones, whatever. I have no mystic feelings about them, just think they are cool.

I usually wear a silver ring with a Celtic knot. I used to wear my graduation ring daily which had my so-called birth stone (garnet), but once got mugged and they took it away.

I don´t want to get into the religious controversy, I have never had any religious identity, I had a jewish grandfather who married my catholic grandmother, my father was atheist and my mother agnostic. I will respect the belief of others and demand respect for mine.

Still, the idea of dancing naked around the tree sounds cool.

Don Luis,

Dance around a tree? Obviously, you have not seen my s-i-l, the Lord love her.

This is where even I think a good talisman, especially one to numb the senses if you know what I mean, might be a good idea.

And she rips into me with such a sweet voice, too, I might add.

I have worn a jade pendant on a thin gold chain for about 15 years now. It is a personal statement that has nothing to do with luck or with mysticism.

I like silver also and have quite a few rings....I tried to wear copper bracelets and it something about it breaks me out...I can tarnish the edges of my silver rings black if I don't give them a regular cleaning too...just the edges.. I have a pinky ring that has a round shield design...There is a very thick handmade cuff I have had my eye on for over a year now...

I used to carry a worry stone, just to give my fingers something to do. You can't flick a knife everywhere...hehe

I have now picked up a plain silver 'spin ring' this is a ring that has an outer ring that you can spin...this has replaced my worry stone. I picked up the plain because most of the ones I have seen looked more feminine...This one looked more manly...

It would be extreemly cool to find one in Ti.....

Beliefs aside, I've always liked hematite and amber, even though I don't own any.

'Preciate the clarifiction, but don't you forget that my choice to enjoy something is just as valid as yours to dance around it.

Some people believe that certain rocks (or, more basically, the combinations of certain chemicals and their innate properties) can have an effect on the person who comes into contact with them.
Wanna see proof? Mention a diamond to your favourite lady.

If mine wants to wear Jade it's cool with me, just means more money left over to buy her a Rainbow Leek for her B'day.

Cheers, Ya'll

Nothing makes my wife feel prettier than when she wear the 2 carat diamond pendant I bought her for Xmas one year. It's like what they say, diamonds are a girl's best friend...
