Awhile back there was a poster who had day hiked at this location and posted pictures.

I guess they don't teach future officers about weather forecasts !! This , after all was a major storm , very high winds and dropping temperatures and they were lightly dressed !! Not very smart.

A big thanks to the rescuers - 50 mph in the dark - wow !

Well, you cant expect them to only train on days with sunny and fair weather. The mistake IMO was that they werent prepared for mountain weather. Should have been equipped with those wind-bag things, that you can crawl into in an emergency.

But youre right, severe mountain weather can be atrocius!

I fail to see how a few politicians could have helped.

Excellent job by NYPD!

BTW I live about 75 miles west of Bear Mountain so we had the same weather. The day before it was beautiful ! The first real warm days ,60 F ,calm ,and sunshine. But the forecasts were accurate in describing the coming storm .Even without the storm nighttime temperatures typically would drop quite a bit requiring warm clothing. They need some 10th Mtn Div people to show them how to survive !!
