Any suggestions for a radio that picks up the
National Weather Service broadcasts?

Not sure if I want a regular am/fm set with a weather band, or a dedicated weather radio only. Also I understand there are some systems that the national weather service can trip that sends out a page for severe weather warnings. Anyone know anything on these?

Prefer battery powered and under $50.

Thanks

Radio Shack has always had several models that work well. The ones with a fixed crystal frequency tuner are nice. I have had one of there tuneable kind for 15+ years on a boat and it's still 'ticking'....They used to be around $20

Thanks Spim -

I was down at the 'shack today. They have their cube model on sale for $15. Small 3 1/2 inch cube radio runs on 9 volts battery. Sounds like a good bargain.

Make sure to try before you buy. I went to buy their weather cube and it wouldn't receive any broadcasts. The salesman said "Oh that's because you're inside a building." At the time is was for use at work, which was a very similar building type. So I didn't buy it.

The automatic warning ones cost a bit more, and there is a newer type that sounds the alarm for local emergencies instead of any emergency I think they are around $100.

Just ordered a Midland from amazon.com
It has am/fm with the basic NOAA hazard alert and 9 volt back up. $25 plus shipping.
