I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this...
I'd like to try building my own web site, something simple and easy to update.
I'm not quite sure where to start. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.
Cheers

Content management systems (CMS) like Joomla and Drupal are great, but there can be a pretty big learning curve.

You will need to register a domain name (your ".com", or ".net"). Then you will need to purchase web hosting space. I like www.godaddy.com, but there are many otherse. You can get a domain name and a year of hosting for around $60.00 or so.

You can build your site from scratch, or you can buy a template (www.pixelmill.com has a nice selection) or use one of the pre-made sites the hosting companies offer.

For a web editor you can use Nvu which is free (http://www.net2.com/nvu/download.html) or some of the simple hosting companies solutions (such as Godaddy's "Web Site Tonight") have on-line web-based interfaces into which you add your content.

Yahoo is not the cheapest but I think a good deal for the money.

A domain name is $10 and the site hosting about $10 a month. It comes with a free site builder program and lots of free templates.
If you are not a website builder this might be the way to go. I recommend checking it out. That is who I use and have never had any problems.
