Dear Jeff,
I've just ordered a Buck 560 Titanium, so while I wait for it's delivery,
I've been cruising around the net, seeing what I can find out about it.
(Yeah, I know I should have done this before I ordered it)

Anyway, the Buck website lists the blade length as 3 1/4".
It's 3 3/4" isn't it ?
Now for my question.
What is the weight of the Titanium 560 compared to the standard
brass and wood 110 ?
Thanks in advance
Doc

Doc,
can you give us a review of the Buck 560 when you get it? I really like the look of this knife and am intending purchasing one. I love the 110 series but they are just a bit heavy for daily carry, the titanium handle should lower the weight to the point where it would be perfect. Now, if only it had a thumb stud.

Regards
John

Hi Doc,
Your knife is on its way. I threw it into the mail this afternoon.

Hopefully you will have it by Monday.

The blade is 3 3/4 and due to the titanium handle, it is lighter than my 110s. Exact specs I don't know, but it is very surprising and makes for a comfortable knife.

John,
If you want a 560 and are looking for a good deal, email me, I have another for sale.

Dear CJ & Jeff,
Thanks for the info.

Dear John,
I won't go into the blade or lock, it's pure 110.
Takes a good edge and locks like a safe.
As CJ said, the 560 is a little more than half the weight of the 110.
Where the 110 feels silky smooth due to the brass and wood.
The 560 feels precision cut, no sharp edges, but a lot of detail points.
It's also a little thinner than the 110.
The knife is all metal, but it doesn't have the cold, slippery
feel of a stainless steel handle. The titanium feels like a ceramic crock stick.
Between the finger grooves and the cutouts in the handle, there is no
way this knife is ever going to slip in your grip.
Fit and finish are excellent.
I used to think of this model as the expensive, lightweight 110, but the
560 has enough merit to stand on its own.
(Geez, am I a windbag or what?)
Doc

Doc,
thanks for the review, this is the first I have seen on this knife. Sounds like the perfect daily carry knife, I love the 110 but it is just a litle heavy for in the pocket and the belt sheath attracts a little too much attention in this land of no carry.
It sounds as though this is my next purchase.
How is it for edge holding?
Cheers
John

John,
I haven't done any serious cutting with it,
but my standard 110 holds a good edge.
Besides, they sharpen up real quick.
Doc

JOH,
The blade is the same as a 110 except for the stamping...
BTW.. THE 560 is being sunsetted this year.... the last 1500 pairs of handles are in-house... when those are built, it's done. We'll have a new titanium folder soon to replace.

Jeff,
thanks for the info on the 560. I really want one of these and was waiting for the Custom shop to open as I would like a couple of mods done on it, however if it is being discontinued I'd bettere get one soon.
BTW any date yet for the custom shop opening?

Cheers
John

JOH, FYI, the 560 is not slated to be a custom shop item. But now that you mention it, it might be a simple add-on.... I talked with Pete our team leader, and we'll discuss it with the team. Sound like a real good idea. Then you could get a BG-42 Add-on... We'll explore it and let you know.

John,

A date for the Custom Knife Shoppe - how about the first week of July. (knock on wood laminate)

We are still playing with its usability, and making sure our manufacturing can handle building individual knives to order. Then there's order processing, beta testing, customer service, etc..

One thing is for sure, it's gunna be sweet! But then, what do I know.

Pete, Jeff, thanks for the reply. Will you notify us here when the Custom shop opens?
Also will we be able to send in our Buck knives for customising or is it just for new purchases?
BTW my new 560 is on its way.

Cheers
John

John,

To be perfectly honest, we're making up our minds about what we're doing as we go along. And we're also thinking about what to do next with this.

I like your idea, and based on how we're setting up the shoppe, that should be easy enough to do. I was also thinking that if people have materials that they would like us to build a knife out of, they could send it in. For instance if someone shot an Elk, they could have trophy knives instead of the rack for display. Or wood from an old tree, or even blades made from a special steel, or any material with sentimental value.

I better stop before my imagination writes a check our corporate rear ends can't cash (but you get the idea).

Don't worry, we'll let you know when it's open. Also, the Buck web site will have a new home page as well.

Thanks for the input from everybody; it's what really makes a project fun to do. :-)

Pete

I've carried the 560 in my shop ever since I've been selling Bick Knives. (About 5 years now). Both the gray and the black models. They never were great sellers and I had almost decided to drop them from my inventory. Then I saw that they were being sunsetted so I ordered a few more, just because. I guess they will either go fast when the word gets out that they are gone or, I will have a "lifetime supply".

I like the knife and never understood why they weren't good sellers. Especially since they led the pack with the titanium handles. Maybe it was because they weren't liner locks.

Anyway the other titanium handle knives sell for a lot more money. It will be interesting to see what replaces them.
