We decided to replace Tess's leather section with a shop tour area on the web site. Tess felt that enough sheath work was shown in the knife photos, plus we've had alot of interest in our set-up. This is the first part, the Hot Shop. I left space for a press that we'll be building and adding soon. I hope also to add the Cold Shop section very soon. Not meaning to talk down to anyone in any way but, I tried to put this together in fairly plain terms for customers who don't know alot about the "making" aspect of knives. Any opinions or critics are more than welcome. Fire away. Thanks.

That's a great layout J! I wish mine was that nicely organized. Love the 25 pounder. I have a 100 pounder, and someday want to add a 25, 50, and 250. Don't know why, just can't help it I guess. Anyway, your site is coming along very nicely. You let Tess have all the web space she wants though! She's a key part of your operation, I hear nothing but GOOD about the both of you!

You just did this to make me jealous, didn't you? :D Man you have a lot of nice stuff to work with. Your welding forge looks great. I'll have to get some pointers from you one of these days... I'm looking forward to the cold shop part next, so don't slack off. ;) Thanks for sharing.

Very cool J. Only thing I might change is the Title tag on the page which sitll says Leather Goods. :) Wish I had half that much gear and shop space(not that I'd make it into shop any more often, but would be cool just to have 'em. ;) )

Same blower as yours George (Blower Part # 16-1032 $18.99 Vendor Surplus Center). I've got it mounted under the bench and connected to a heater hose. This way I can just move it back and forth between the two forges just like the gas line. Since I never use both at the same time, it seemed like the way to go.

Nice tour, J. I'm getting ready to build an outside smithy myself. Would you mind telling us what the dimensions of your hot shop are? I was thinking a 12x12, or 12x14 shop would suffice. What do you think? Did you lay the cinder blocks yourself?

Sure. The shop is about 13x15. It was the milk house on the corner of the barn where my cold shop is. I only had the concrete pad to work with but, it was a good start. I found a fella tearing down an old block house and bought the secondhand cinder blocks he had. It's not the straightest or prettiest thing in the world (yep, laid 'em myself) but, it's alot harder to burn down.
:D

Thanks, J.

A new smithy made of block like that is certainly a consideration for me. My only beef is the price of blocks around here are $1.42 each. I'll have to do some calculations, but they are a nice alternative to wood. Peace of mind counts for a lot, huh? :)

J.,I just had the honor of your site shop tour, and I am really impressed, fella. Of course, your knives really impress me, too! Kudos to your lovely wife for all the hard work she puts into your shop work, too. Leather is an art that eludes many of us. Thanks for the tour, J.
