Hello to all! First let me say that I very rarely get over to this forum, as I don't make knives. If it's glowing, I know not to pick it up with my bare hands, but that's about all. But a guy I met some time ago at a gun show has begun making knives and has offered to make a knife based on my "design." He uses primarily D-2, and so I began looking around for various sources of information on D-2 to see if it is the right steel for the this job (7-9 inch fixed blade multi- purpose camper/utility, probably 1/4 inch stock). I stumbled across this website:
http://www.MetalTreatingMall.com

There is a discussion board under the section titled HTO (for Heat Treating Online, their former site) in which experts from all areas of metallurgy and the steel industry talk about heat treatment processes and equipment. Most of it is waaaay over my head, but thought you guys might find something useful there.

Take care! (and if it's glowing, don't pick it up with your bare hands!)

Tom
