Hello everyone. I am having the website re-done, and I could use your help with a couple of favors. This thread is going to be for testimonials about Fiddleback Knives. Please make your testimonial about a specific model knife. I like pics, but I don't know if we will use them in the website, or just enjoy them here. Either way, if you're willing to write me a testimonial I'd sure appreciate it.

Fiddleback Forge Bushcrafter

I had a Bushcrafter a while back and regrettably traded it away a few years back. It was one of the best knives I've ever owned, the highest quality I've EVER seen, and the best slicer out there. I put this thing through a whole lot of stuff. Amazingly, it was still razor sharp. It had the most comfortable handle I have felt on a knife, and since i traded it away, I've bought countless knives trying to find one to replace it and I honestly haven't. I just bought a Hiking buddy and immediately realized how much i missed Fiddleback Forge Knives. Andy's knives are the best out there bar none.

Being very new to the knife scene I feel fortunate to have found Fiddleback Forge. I was in the hunt for a nice hunting knife for my nephew's Christmas present. I'm the Uncle that spoils the nephews and niece so I had to make sure I got him something cool. While doing some research on the internet I found Fiddleback Forge on a knife website. I sent an email to the website and the specific knife I was looking at on the website had just sold but the salesperson suggested that I email Andy Roy to see what he had in Stock. I did that and was amazed to see that Andy answered my email within 30 minutes saying that he had the knife I was looking for on "BF" and he gave me a link and the rest is history. The knife was a kismet practical hunter. It was the first 4 Fiddleback Forge knives that I have purchased, 3 being directly from Andy from his Fiddleback Fridays on Bladeforums.com. I've become a fan Andy's work and look forward to expanding my collection of his work in the future.

Man, this thread is good for the soul. As always, I appreciate your support, and I make my living from your enthusiasm for my work. Thanks guys.

Anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors will begin to obsess about their kit. The weight of their pack, the bounce in their boots, the thickness of their belt; though all concerns seem to fall away to the pursuit of "the perfect outdoor knife". There's a progression to follow, a roadmap of sorts, and you eventually move from larger company blades to custom makers when you begin to fuss about the thickness of the palm swell or the slope of the choil... But all roads end at Andy Roy. An Andy Roy knife is a knife filled with purpose. However people came to know fiddleback forge, few have left, because there's nothing quite like the RELIEF of holding an Andy Roy knife. It's the relief of knowing that knife you've always wanted is actually out there... And indeed, many come to get "the perfect bushcraft knife" or "a perfect small slicer", but you invariably find yourself buying more and more. What does Andy think of a Kephart? What does Andy say about the Nessmuk? What's Andy's take on a machete? His answers will astound you.

Andy - I have been thinking about what I wanted to say for a while - but I think this simple bit should suffice:

"After knowing Andy and Fiddleback forge for years, I can honestly say that Andy either makes it right the first time - or he makes it right. I have yet to see a customer who was not happy with Andy's work or Andy's warranty."

Bushfinger

I have 2 5/32" Bushfingers, one in S35VN and one in O1. After buying these Fiddlebacks my other knives have seen very little use. The Bushfinger is the best general purpose fixed blade I have used and it performs excellently at most tasks. The handles are also very comfortable and fit my hand perfectly. The fit and finish on both knives was flawless and they have both held up very well with lots of use.

As a testimony to how satisfied I am I have two more knives on the way from Andy to complement my Bushfingers (1/8" Ladyfinger and a Camp knife).

I took some time and interviewed a few people on the street today about what they thought of Andy's work. I got a lot of good responses but this one was the best. Feel free to put it on the website, I did not catch his name.

I have a 16 inch fiddle back forge machete, when I first received my new machete it was razor sharp and I was concerned that it would lose its edge too fast. But after trimming several holly bushes, cutting down a few 4 inch pine trees, lots of cutting up wood for the fire, and battoned many logs. it still has a great edge and will make feather sticks with ease.

If you want I still have a bunch of pictures of me using my fiddleback machete from this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1081062-Bushcraft-skills-challenge!! that I did not use so just let me know if you want any.

I hope this is ok to say Mr Roy, I've given it some thought for a while:

It's funny to me, we don't 'need' things to enjoy a certain task, but to be honest, the 'right thing' can make all the difference. You know what I mean. Who doesn't want to go for a round of golf after the new driver shows up? Doesn't the tuneup seem less intimidating with the new tool set? And maybe even the trim can get finished with the new miter saw? Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to say that something 'new' is all it takes. Most all of us have a little too much of everything. BUT, the RIGHT tool, the RIGHT item, can make the difference between getting something done and ENJOYING getting it done.

Personally, I have spent much time in the outdoors, growing up. Our only family vacation for over a decade was tent camping in Missouri for a week. I loved it! Then came fishing. My teenage years brought trout fishing. In my 20s I began hunting. When I got older and married, I feel very fortunate my wife loves the outdoors as well. We camp and fish often. I have always had an interest in cutting tools and one day in 2009 I found something that changed things for me. Fiddleback Forge. Previous to this, I had never known of the world of custom knives. Now, I wish I knew then what I know now.

For me, Fiddleback Forge has been one of those 'things' that made me WANT to go outdoors. I find more enjoyment with the right Fiddleback by my side. You know when you found the right driver and can't wait for the next round. Or the right shoes that make the next run a joy. That is where I find myself with Fiddlebacks. I'm not wealthy, and I don't own every model. I don't even collect knives. But, I feel the thought, planning, materials and execution that go into each knife that is made my Andy Roy is part of why I can't wait for my next trip. For me it's meant a lot of things:

Butchering deer with the Hunter:

Or using the Bushfinger during deer season:

The Bushfinger makes fire prep with feather sticks a breeze:

I am learning to enjoy carving with the scandi Terrassaur:

And of course trout fishing with the Hiking Buddy:

Currently, I have sold off nearly every single production knife I own to make room for Fiddleback Forge. I have found the 'thing' that let me enjoy the outdoors just a little bit more. For that, I thank you Mr Roy.

I can't wait for the next adventure.
