Folks, I want to have a page on the new website that tries to explain the various terminology we use around here. I also want to show the different ways we stand out on that page as well. Things like bullseye tubes, convex sabergrinds, and orange burst g10 will be on the page. I also want to put terms we use on the site like Tuxedo and Doublemint handle configs. I don't want to miss anything, so if you have Fiddleback vernacular input/questions, please ask them here.

THANKS!!!

Some terms maybe to include:

Handle Sweep

Bolsters

Light Spalting vs Heavy Spalting

Choil

Guardless

Explain "Stabilized" - tell pros and cons
Define "Spalted" - it took me some searching around to figure out what it meant

Describe Fiddleback Friday and the Law of the Sharks.

Maybe a list of your maker's marks that have been used and which years they were in service? Might be useful for determining how old knives are.

Describe different Micartas: Canvas vs Linen vs Shadetree Burlap

It's probably out there, Im just terrible with surfing websites for info...

Explain what FB's spa treatment consists of.

1) Tapered Tang vs. Full Tang - what are the pros cons, weight difference, strenght difference, why choose one over the other.
2) I know this was briefly covered by others but an overview of the different grinds would be helpful
3) What are the different scale materials used, what are the pros/cons
4) Steels: I know most are 01 but you also make knives with CPM 154cm - again pros/cons etc.

If I think of any others I will let you know.

"Liners" vs "scales" vs "pin stripes"

As a noob to knives I've had to try to figure out the terminology on my own without asking stupid questions.

Also until recently I didn't catch that you throw in a mosaic pin here and there. Its kind of like a bonus now when I see one on Fiddleback Fridays

Another thing as more of a question but it might spark some ideas for descriptions. I see two knives that are the same model but the grind height is different exposing more of the spalting. I'm not sure if this is on purpose or just how things turn out by feel when you're grinding.

Neato. I like how this is going. Please keep this up guys.

I see it's already mentioned, but my biggest one when I first started checking your knives was scales vs bolsters vs liners vs stripe vs pinstripes. I'm still not sure if Pinstripes are thinner than Stripes.
Haven't you done a couple with Whitewalls, too?

Only other thing I was looking for was more detailed dimensions for each model type. Not just OAL blade length and handle length, but thickness (or blade thickness options for each,) blade width, handle heght and thickness ranges, sharpened edge length, etc. You also have made several knives which are not included in the overview. A link to an overview of the designer (for those designed by others) would be really great, too.

Keep up the great work! If you get all this in there, you're website will be a great resource for owners past, present and future and maybe even a guide for aspiring knifemakers.

Oh, and if you're going to use it on the website, it's vernacular.

let's add the hidden tang as well. lightweight, great balance, no performance hits for me...

So this might not fit "vernacular" but when my best friend got me hooked on Fiddleback I had a huge information overload. Being new to both knives and Fiddleback I had my work cut out for me. So I put together a spreadsheet of all the knives I've seen on the forum or are listed on Andy's website. I added data points like blade length, OAL, Thickness, Handle length, steel, etc. just to help me learn what was what and the differences. Might consider something like that with all the options available for me that was the first way I could compare individual pieces. Just a thought!
