A buddy of mine is getting married and I’d like to get him a decent kitchen knife. Thinking around the $300 range. Not particularly looking for a specific style, but thinking 6” plus for length What would all of you good folks suggest? Thanks

For $300 I would say a custom.

I mean all the good knIves, the globals or the wustorfs don't even come close to that price.

And I tend to cheap out with F dicks and victorinox.

I suggest one from one of the custom makers on this site! Some very talented individuals. Check the knifemaker for sale forum.

Make sure to get them a nice knife and a nice cutting board.

And make sure they give you back a coin or you'll be blamed for the divorce.

I'm a big fan of Santoku and Nakiri style Japanese chef knives. I'm loving my Shun Classic 6.5" Nakiri that I got for Christmas.

Ummm. What?? Haven’t heard this before, please explain if you don’t mind. 😳

Traditionally a knife as a gift cuts the friendship. So they have to buy the knife off you.

The cutting board is so they don't take your $300 knife and mangle it.

We have used a Fibrox by Victorinox 8 piece kitchen knife set for many years. This knife model is "commercial grade", used in many restaurant kitchens, easy to clean. The Fibrox knives work very well for an affordable knife set. You really don't have to spend a bunch of dough for a very good kitchen knife.

I’ve always heard of giving a coin with a knife for the same reason. ones not going to try to cut the coin or the friendship with it.

That’s what i use and I love it.

I’d get them that, the bread knife and a set of steak knives/utility knives. The whole set up is done, with good stuff, for less than the price of one. Love my victorinox kitchen blades.

Thanks, and you are correct. However, I’m buying it as a wedding present and want something memorable, more than just a knife if that makes sense. Think I found the right one, will post pics when it arrives.
