  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Wedge, Sledge & Axe

Thank you Bob for putting this wonderful video up for us to see. I noticed that some of the axes were from Gransfors Bruks historic collection. Sadly, I do not think that Gransfors still makes those any more. I sure have enjoyed using the ones I acquired years ago.
The only thing I believe I would do differently is in the log splitting I would only use the steel sledge hammer to drive the steel splitting wedges. I would drive the wood gluts (wedges) with a wood maul or a beetle, maybe even a commander. (see "Ancient Carpenters Tools" by Henry Mercer) This is how I learned to split Locust and White Oak rails into quarters. It prolongs the life of the gluts.
