My basket weave orders have gone up about 5 times since last year, mainly for revolver rigs. This week had 3 holsters, 3 belts, and a couple neat accessories. Thought you guys might like to look.

Very nice work, that is a lot of stamping and you do it well. Thanks for sharing.

That looks awesome. What's the intent with the holster flap in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th photos? It kinda looks like it's made to act more as a brush guard than for retention?

Thanks for all the kind words folks!

Terence, this style of holster is more commonly referred to as the 'Hank Sloan.' It was designed in either the late 50's or early 60's and was popular with FBI agents of the day. The purpose is to keep the sharp rear adjustable sight and hammer out of your cover garment and/or forearm and prevent snagging of the cover garment. While most folks that purchase this don't carry them concealed it is still popular to keep the gun protected and out of digging into your skin. It's easy to see looking at common carry firearms of the day how a lot of suit coat linings were sacrificed before this addition came along!

What I really like is the mix of weave and smooth, as on the shell carriers. Never thought of that before, it's really striking. Would you mind if i tried that out for my personnal rig? Randy/rtmind

Thanks Eagle
Makes sense, I have a Trail Boss with those same sights and they are a bit sharp. Did a modernized Webley but it came out a bit too snug so the sights dig. On the list of things to do (along with load some photos to a server...)

Hey Randy - by all means I'm certainly not the first to do so. If you want a really neat look chuck your punch up in a drill press and knock the center out of each loop.

Thanks Eagle

Terence, very nice on the Trail Boss. I have the lock version in a Backpacker and am really fond of that little gun. 44 special got me hooked in big bores but that gun is what got me stuck on magnums.

Something you make consider if this is just for outdoor use is a design like this. It is going to be a high ride strong side but you could drop it down as a cross draw to a reasonable level with a short barrel. I came up with this design when making a personal holster for IDPA use, got tired of catching my forearm on the rear sight and they require a fully covered trigger.

When I'm back on my hope pc I have a picture saved of a really neat combo shoulder/belt holster with a full flap I'll try to remember to send you. Might suit the bill.

Goregeous work as always Eagle. I always love your pics. Also digging those round butt Smiths. I've got a 5" 610 with a roundbutt, rosewood grips.

Very nice work.

It looks like the same stamp was used on all those pieces that you've shown. Do you know the maker and size of the stamp? Also, do you do any sort of layout to keep your stamps straight, or is it just a lot of practice?

Eaglestroker. Amazing leather work. One quick question. On the two ammo loops, they are both for 7-rounds, but for a six shooter. Is there some special reason why it is 7, not 6 rounds? John

Dave, WOW a 610! I've tried to buy one on more than one occasion - sure your aware where the prices have gone with those things since new.

Poor quality pictures always bugged me looking on websites. If it's a pile of crap, well the customer needs to see the nut, or he has no idea what is actually being purchased. I try to photograph every project but probably only get about 55% of them shot.

Mike, same stamp on everything. The size is a #3, stamps are craftool. There are better quality stamps out there but the tooling surface and maul are more important for me. One day I'll make a big BK order but there are other tools in front of them. I keep 3 of the same stamp. One whole, one cut in half, and one cut at a 45*. Keeps me from having to rock the stamp. I can supply a number next weekend I'm out of town at the moment.

Beautiful work.
:D

Thank you sir!

Hi John, very astute question you asked. If you do any holster work, it is dangerous to make assumptions. The first rig is made for a S&W 386PD which is a 7 shot 357 Magnum revolver, and the second is for a Ruger Single Seven which is a 7 shot 327 Federal revolver. Most customers know what they have but it is important you know as much or more than they do to avoid predictable dilemmas.

Deep, crisp and precise, things you always want to hear ;)

Nicely done!

eaglestroker, thank you very much for sharing your work. really amazing and also always nice to see something different from a knife sheath.

Eagle I know and try finding a 5" with a roundbutt! With 10's its great, with .40s its simply the most accurate handgun I've ever fired, period. See if I can find a pic of it.

Found a couple:
