The lineup this weekend is:

- 4 Woodsman to glueup and handle shaping.
- 7 Woodsman blades heat treated
- New models, and 5 bushcrafters ground and ready for heat treat
- 2 Bow Legged Joes finising touches done (finally)

What pics would y'all like to see?

Copy that. BLJ pics coming. The two I'm currently finishing are the denim handled one, and one in purpleheart and maple.

Off to the zoo with the kids. I'll take pics of the work later. As usual, shop time was prescious, and I got maybe 70% of my work done.

I find that is typical of any weekend regardless of how much or how little I plan to accomplish. Can't wait for pics. Have fun at the zoo.

Yea. I did too much two day in the shop weekends last year. I missed a lot of cool kid stuff. The zoo was great. And I got down there for another hour and a half or so today too! Woo hoo. Lots done, but no pics yet. I'll try to take some this evening or tomorrow.

What I did:

-Woodsmen (4) in glue.
-Heat treated 3 more Woodsmen. Four of the first batch are trash due to warping, 5/12 bad. Not acceptable. These warped ones I'm going to see what I can do with them, but they won't be going towards the run.
-Profiled 4 Woodsmen, and 2 BIG ASS CHOPPERS (another new model, bad ass too, 15" OAL)
-Drilled pin and lanyard holes in 14 knives
-Practiced tapering tangs on 3 knives!!! - (soon all will be tapered)
-Made the accessories for the drill press that will allow properly drilling tapered scales
-Did some grinding on the BLJ's

Believe me I will. I've never made a chopper before! Should I taper the tang on those bad boys?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but other than looking cool, tapering the tang is to done to cut weight and improve balance, right? I think it looks great, so assuming it can be done while maintaining proper balance with what I'm assuming is such a large, thick blade, I say go for it.

Tapering the tang removes a lot of weight from the handle without lessening the strength. It "improves" the balance if you want the balance more blade forward. It would hinder it if you needed the balance point closer to the grip.

Mainly, IMO, it just looks cool. On these big knives the balance point moving forward isn't a bad thing (more choppy). On most knives, I think the balance point argument is a bunch of hot air.

Agreed. That was my original thought when I first saw pictures of tapered tangs, but forgot to mention here.

Yes, especially since most drill holes into the handle to lighten and balance anyway. As you said, this is probably even more true on a chopper where the balance is going to be toward the tip of the blade regardless.

I hope to. I have two very close to done.

Andy,

Are the works in progress "spoken for", or are some soon to be posted as Currently Available. I have not had one of your knives in hand, but would like to.

Cheers,

Dan

The WIP's are not all spoken for. In fact, the only ones that are spoken for in these pics are the Woodsmen.

Weekend work. Glued up a LOT of scale sets. Got 4 woodsmen very close to done. Today I should finish them up. Finished up the Gaucho knife I've been working on. Last weekend I tapered my first tangs, and this weekend I drilled their tang holes. Glued up some layered natural canvas micarta and black g-10 for the choppers.

Oh, and I finished two Bow Legged Joes this weekend too. Just need to mark them.
