This all started awhile back when Dave and I were talking about making damascus and forges. I was having trouble with mine freezing bottles and at times felt it was not hot enough to weld in. Dave was telling me about how efficient his forge was and I got to see them used at the Blacksmith Conference in Sisters oregon a few months back and was very impressed so I had him build me a 2 burner model. This last weekend Dave had a Swapmeet at his shop on Saturday and he and some of the other fellows did some demos and I started a "W" billet.

Dave was Gracious enough to have me come play in his shop all day Sunday just he and I which was a lot of fun despite the record heat wave that the West Coast was having. We made a pile of damascus I think 4 or 5 billets 2 of which were mine.

Thanks Dave I had a blast and learned a lot and loved every minute playing with that big hammer of yours :D.

Here are some pics from the day thanks to my wife who put up with us and the heat.

Looking good. you got to spend time with one of the nicest guys in the blademakeing biz. I am happy to call him a friend.

Very cool. Looking forward to seeing what becomes of those billets.

Great pics! I'd love to see what that hammer is like in action. Looks like a great shop, too. Good to see you can be so productive AND have fun.

I'm looking forward to a day soon when I can come down for a visit, Dave.
Your shop is awesome!

I've heard rumors that Dave is the tool King!

Looks like "hammer time".
Great photos!
David

Based on those pics, that rumor appears to be more than a rumor:D That is an impressive looking hammer!

That must have been a great time to spend a weekend there.

Well I forged out a blade today from that "W" billet, I knocked the bark off to see what it looks like. Man is she sweeet Thanks Dave for helping me figuring out my problem with that pattern. I will post a pick tomorrow.

And Dave that forge rocks man and I have forged in it 2 days now for over 8 hours a day and not a single frozen bottle which makes me very happy :D.

As for tools you guys are right just imagine you not even seeing half of Dave's toys ;), he definitely has me beat.

Cool stuff Mike! :)

I was standing right next to you a bunch of times, but just didn't realize I could have been putting another face with a BF name. Sorry I missed ya, I tried to meet as many folks as I could...but sometimes 'ya just get busy yapping with people and miss out.

Nick it is OK I was on meeting people overload LOL besides since you did not have your anvil with you I would have never known it was you ;). Well we will have to chat next time for sure :D.

Well here is the first blade out of this steel :D this one is for a customer hope you all like it. Hoping to have this one heat treat tomorrow and shooting to have it ready to ship by next weekend.

David, Killer shop and tools man!

Thanks Bruce and Roger :D.

Well thought I would drop a couple progress pics.

Yesterday I got around to heat treating this everything went well no cracks or warps :D. I love pulling damascus from the oil it is like Christmas for me as the pattern just pops. All though it did not photograph well but here they are.

Today I had some time to knock the bark off and machine finish to 120 grit. Tomorrow I will machine finish to 800 grit then start hand sanding.
