Was busy with axes this weekend.

I picked up this first axe for $2 locally. New handle and hand filed a new bit. It looks like a pattern similar to several of my Maine made axes.

Unknown maker. Marked 3 1/4 on the face of the axe and a 31 on the bottom of the poll:

I cleaned it up several months ago but took the angle grinder to it to clean it up more and then I put some gun blue on it. Came out good with a lot of wedge. Used an old handle that I was able to save off an axe I bought just for the handle.

Snow & Nealley double bit. Blued this one as well. Put it on a 28" house handle octagonal.

That one marked 31 on the poll could well be an oakie. The lions share of oakies Ive seen and have are marked on the bottom. Still not sure what it means, I have heard the year of manufacture which would make sense. Very nice axe regardless.

I use Birchwood Casey Perma Gun Blue. They sell a cleaner / degreaser that I use as well.

Great projects, but the one thing that just jumps out at me the most is your photography! Are you shooting film? Looks an awful lot like old Kodachrome slide film to me, or maybe shot with a Holga? Its a breath of fresh air to see such wonderful pictures on a site comprised mostly of camera phone shots! If yours are, they sure don't look like it!

Cooper, I just love to see your weekend projects. You really do a nice job on all your restorations.
