Weekend bag?

I'm looking for recommendations on a three day bag of good durability that doesn't cost a huge amount of money. It can be either a backpack or a small duffel. At the moment I use a Northface Recon II backpack, but at ~1800 in^3 it isn't quite large enough, especially if I'm carrying a firearm in a locked case (grrrrr, california....) and some sweats.

What I'm looking for is something in and around 3,000 in^3.

My current leading choice is a Maxpedition Vulture II backpack, which can be had for around $110 on Amazon. But, really, that seems like overkill. I guess I can go look at my local army surplus store, but I wanted to see what others might suggest.

Thanks.

Check out a 5.11 Tactical Rush 72 Bag.

I have the slightly smaller model - 5.11 Tactical Rush 24 backpack. I would consider this a 2 day pack. Lots of room. Very well made.

I carry a Kelty Redwing. Blends in well, and it doesn't scream tactical stuff or gun, but holds both of those things very well.

I dunno what you want it for exactly, but I have an eagle creek bag thats convertable from a (rectangular) duffell/suitcase to a backback. Its square shaped but not hardened anywhere. I use it all the time for 2-3 day trips. Its just right. Its 'ballistic' nylon and has lots of neat little organization features.

Well, what can I say. After going around to a few stores, including the surplus store, and after reading a bunch of reviews online, I ended up ordering a Maxpedition doppelduffel. It has all the features I want, plus I know the thing will be practically bullet-proof. The only problem I have with it is the price. But I managed to find it along with three maxpedition cuboids, for $20 less than the retail price of just the bag, so there you have it.

As for what I'm going to do with this bag -- mostly I'll be throwing it into the back of pickup trucks, carrying gear in into walk-in campsites (~1 mile from the parking lot), hauling it through airports, hauling it around conventions, kicking it around motel rooms, that sort of thing. Who knows? Maybe I'll even take the kids to New Zealand someday, and then it can come along on that trip too.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I think I spent too much money, but compared to a good knife or ammo for a day at the range, I guess it isn't too awfully bad.
