Weekend Camping blade and menu choices

So I'm going camping in Tahquemonon State Park this weekend with my buddy. We've got a backcountry campsite which is about a 2.5 mile hike in. Basically just a firepit and a bear pole. We're gonna do some hiking and hunting. I want a review on my blades and my menu

Blades:

Koyote Rancher knife
Wetterling 24" axe
JK EWOK
SAK Farmer

(assorted others in my various kits, whatnot)

Would my BK7 be overkill in addition to this? I'm thinking so, guess if my packs not too heavy I might throw it in though. Or make my buddy carry it.

Menu:

Breakfasts: Oatmeal with dried fruit/nuts
Lunch TBD (Any ideas?)
Dinner 1: Ramen with cut up sausage
Dinner 2: Lumberjack Pasties (wrap up some sausage or other meat and cut up potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers, etc in foil, cook over coals)
Trail Mix and Jerky for snacks

Anyone else got any good/easy meal ideas?

Booze:

I'm big on Scotch and Irish whisky, but my buddy likes American/Canadian stuff. Anyone got a good compromise that will keep us both happy?

For the Record: I HATE Jack Daniels, so please dont recommend that.

I ordered a new digi camera last week off of Amazon, hoping it will get to me in time, otherwise I might just bring a disposable and have them put the pics on CD, but I'll try to get some pics for next week.

THanks

Leave the axe--Take the BK-7

Unless you plan on doing a lot of chopping

Take lots of photos--

For lunches I enjoy cheese and salami slices on crackers or dark pumpernickel. Though they're bulky and heavy, apples and mandarin oranges can be nice on the first day.

My buddy recently introduced those boil-in-bag packages of corned-beef to our menu. Those are fairly simple to prepare and the hot sandwich is good (especially with mustard).

I also like tuna steaks or flaked tuna in a foil pouch. You can take along a squeeze package of mayo or relish (or both) and make a kind of tunafish salad mix.

While it's not food, I find that a small, thin plastic cutting board is worth the weight for slicing lunchtime stuff (and your dinner salami).

Oh, and I also like adding foil packs of tuna steaks to Ramen noodles, especially the lemon-flavored ones.

Well you are coming up to my neck of the woods......lol. Sounds like you have your bases pretty well covered. My son works at Tahquemenon falls state park. He has seen Moose,Bear and deer there quite freaquently. Are you camping on the clark lake trail or the North country trail? My son said there are alot of Bear hunters up there now. If ya need anything while up here shoot me an e-mail before and I will give you my contact info. I am only 26 miles from the upper falls.

Best of luck,
Mike

We're at the Clark Lake campsite. (Just made the reservation today) I've been up there once before, but I was about 8 and we were only there for a day. I'm hoping to see some wildlife. I'll shoot you an email before I go, my buddy (the one I'm going with) goes to school at Lake State and said it's been raining alot lately, is it pretty wet up by the falls? I'm hoping it's not a wet miserable camping trip (I've had my fair share of those), but I really need to get out of town and I'll make the best of it.

I guess if the weather gets really bad we'll pack up and head for the bars in the Soo. Worse ways to spend a weekend off I guess.

I usually take the 375 plastic flasks of canadian mist, great for adding to that backcountry coffee. Captain Morgan isn't bad, a nice spiced rum you can add to apple cider, make for a great warm fall drink.

For lunch I'm a big fan of summer sausage or pepperoni on a bagel with hard cheese and sliced green pepper.

For booze, why not some 190 grain or moonshine:D heck you could cook with it or drink it!

Take the BK7, its a great camp knife! heck take the axe too! If i can haul 45lbs of blades 5 km into the woods, you can haul 3 or 4 baldes and a axe too!:D

Cmdionne, It has been wet and nasty up here,Rainning right now. My son just graduated from Lake State in May.The bars in the Soo are a good way to spend time....lol. Hopefully it will dry up this weekend for ya.

Second to what bkduckworth said. Bagels, summer sausage, and cheese travel well. Crown Royal is delicious.

Bagels, summer sausage and cheese sound great for lunch(es). If we hit the bars too hard on thursday night we might not end up getting out there in time for lunch and would probably just grab something on the way (meaning we might only need food for one lunch camping).

As far as booze, We can't get the really high proof stuff here in Michigan (must be State law or something), but if I brought some shine, I'd likely need to bring a mixer for it and at that rate I'd rather just bring beer.

I found a stashed bottle of Chivas Regal (my ex-gf's parents would always give me a fifth for christmas and my birthday), so that's likely whats coming along in my platapus bag/bottle. If my buddy doesn't like it too bad.

I do have a fifth of Crown as well (my dad got it as a Christmas gift and doesn't like it, so he gave it to me, but I also don't really like it). Maybe I'll bring some of that along in case my buddy doesn't like the Scotch.

I'm not as worried about weight anymore, I realized that I was thinking I would have the tent AND the food, which likely won't be the case, I can make my buddy carry one of those things, so the BK7 will likely come along.
