Grrrr. What's with the MONSTER M43's you keep posting? :D I'm looking for something more along the lines of 28-32lbs :D

Rajkumar comes through again, a 3 pin chiruwa handle Katana that is stunning. I'd like to see the grain on the handle in a little closer pic, this one looks super nice. Wish that I was rich enough to buy it and go Miyamoto Musashi status. lol

Are the M-43's in general very similar in length/thickness or do they vary a lot? There must be quite a difference between at 28-30 oz M-43 and a 39 oz. I'm looking to get a general purpose camping chopper to replace my hatchet, is there a preferred weight for extended use and chopping capabilities? I would have thought the heavier the better, but I need to be able to handle it as well :D 39 oz is almost double the weight of my 21 oz hatchet!

My favorite chopping weight is 28-32oz. You don't swing them as hard and just let the weight do the work.

Have you handled khuks above 32lbs?

Above 32lbs no... above 32oz yes :)

I have a CAK that is 43oz and an ASTK that is 41oz. I have no problem chopping with blades above 40oz but the sweet spot for me is 28-32. I do like them on the heavier side of that range 31-33oz.

This version of the M-43 is pretty interesting. It seems as though he has crafted it with a longer, straighter handle while retaining the blade's shape. The original design has a shorter more curved grip that locks your hand into one position. This is great if you are using it as a fighter, but it limits what you can do with it as a camp knife. After using it for 6+ years, I've figured it out;) However, this more utility based configuration might really give the M-43 a bit more of an all 'rounder feel.

Interesting. I'm really itching to pick this one up... I just know I'd regret it if it's too much of a beast for me to handle once I get it in hand. HI needs to branch out in Sweden! I need to get a feel for 'em first :D
