The beautiful little MOP (the real stuff, not 'marine pearl' came to me from the UK, via ebay. A bargain price, some buyers are put off by buying from overseas. Three blades, one of them scissors, perfect pearl, no cracks, near mnt condition. I wonder, did this knife originally come with a little pocket 'purse'? Was nice to be able to bring this one home to the USA.

The electrician knife I got from the local knife shop, the owner setting it aside for me until my weekly visit. It has been cleaned-- too much for my tastes, but it is a find. Has the unique blade lock for the scrrewdriver, you must press down on the big blade to close it. Much classier than the 'press' brass liiner type safety locks. It's a Schrade Cut electrician's knife, of course, with wood handles. Back springs are in awesome shape, snaps like a beartrap.

Would someone please send these pics to Stew Taylor, so he knows what real knives look like?

Tally these treasures up under the heading "Collecting on a budget".

Note:: The only Frost knife in my collection has the same kinda blade lock. It's one of the Japan Frosts knives... before Pakistan, before china. Just to show that nothing old is new again. Is that right?

Phil

PS... what's with the visible pin on the shield? Result of too much polishing?

Very nice finds Phil! I have not taken the plunge toward buying from overseas. I have been tempted on some Australian and New Zealand listings though.

I don't have any MOP knives yet. I like them, but if they are real MOP, and not the plastic immitations, or "reconstituted", they are usually out of my price range.

My own early electrician's knife, an Ulster, has not arrived yet. The seller sent me a Camillus instead, and the correct knife is "in the mail" supposedly. Some sellers are not as proficient as you and other forumites in keeping their sales straight.

Very nice Phil.

I really like the little MOP (Lobster Pen?).

Is it an English knife, if I may ask?

Bill

A Homer Simpson "DOH"! No, Bill, I didn't make it clear at all. The top knife is one of 'ours'! A Schrade Walden! That's why I was happy to bring it home.

Phil,
Is there a 4th blade or pick in the back spring? Looks like a nail nick there in the picture. I found a similar knife in the Schrade catalog book pg 81. model 9676T. I'll post a pict if you dont have the book.
Great looking example of great old stuff.
Good find on both.

No problem my friend...I thought maybe it was a Schrade I-XL.
Nail file in the back??

Nice rescue in any event. :)

Bill

Yes, there is a nail file at the bottom, but I am probably too careful, not wanting to risk a back spring break by opening two blades that share a common spring. So I open first two, then the other two for you here in these pics. Guys, I have been very lucky in the past week in finding knives. Nice to have a place to stop in and brag---- er... show them off. Sorry I dont have my magnifying glass handy, I cannot read the tang at all. Gotta find that thing. Thanks for the number Larry, I will look it up.
Phil
