ready to work. i gave it a quick mustard patina, and stain/torch just to darken the wood. 1095, 11.5" overall, 6.5" blade.Epoxy + peened brass pins. I've put an edge on it since this picture. This was never meant to be pretty, I just made it to chop, slice, and otherwise test the edge. I really like this style and may try a clean version.
Looks nice, except the pins look like they would be annoying and rub on your palm. A little more rounding of the handle will make it more comfortable. Is it a kitchen knife, or something else?
"something else" is the best description I can come up with. I agree on the handle, and will be whittling it down over the next few days to more comfortable dimensions.
I'm happy with my initial test. The blade didn't break, chip, bend, or otherwise deform, and retained its edge. Much more to come. The squareish grip is as uncomfortable while shopping as it looks. That will be remedied.
