Weekend in the Woods

This past weekend was my family's annual weekend to cut wood for the year for my grandparents' cabin. It's located near Raystown Lake in central PA. I've been going there for the past 21 years and it is one of my favorite places. I always bring my JK's with me, it's the perfect place to carry them.

I carried my Camp and Trail HD with me all weekend. I love the JK Camp and Trail, I have 3 of them; 1/8", 5/32", and 3/16" thick.

I found a box turtle in the woods and brought it out for my son. He calls turtles "Dudes" because of the sea turtles in Finding Nemo, they are all surfers and say "dude" a lot.

I have been wanting to do a little "test" with my JK's. We all spend a lot of money on our knives. We like to use our knives outdoors and loosing a JK, or any knife, is something I want to avoid. So did a "visual test". I laid all 6 knives on the ground, as if they were accidentally dropped, walked about 6 feet away and took a picture.

Next I took my Eskabar wrapped in orange paracord on the handle, walked about 15-20 feet away and took a picture. I thought it would be more visible.

Something to think about when you order your next JK.

-Edit: Not sure how I can make the pictures any larger.

Looks like fun, I'll be heading to the Poconos for some Duck and Grouse hunting this weekend. I'll try to hang onto my JK. ;)

..

thanks for sharing, definitely a good place to take knives and it is good to know you're getting something that;ll do the job for the money, I've never found any color landyard that really catches my eye anymore then any other, I'm kind of sight dumb that way, so I just make ones i like when they are visible :)

so far I've been lucky and never dropped a Jk without finding it again! fingers crossed, eh?

Wow - that is kinda scary Kurt -

Even when I go to photopost and look at the full res picture, I can't find your becker -

That IS something to think about!

I love the Nemo movie - and I like the turtles - the jetstream of water they ride on - it's cool that your son remembers that about the turtles - made me smile!

I hope you had a great time - your tradition of gathering wood for grandpa's cabin is absolutely priceless - and I love that you are already sharing it with your young ones -

Thank you for taking time to post your pictures and story here, I really appreciate your effort!

best

I also consider how my things look that I take into the woods I have lost pocket knives , flashlights and other toys .
it's a sad affair.

I'm also glad to see the traditions passed on like going to a cabin in the woods or spending time in the outdoors.
too often do I feel that the youth dont respect nature as much as they should and I would be considered by most , as part of the "youth"
many of the things that I have learned about the outdoors I've had to learn on my own and it makes me happy to see people passing it onto their kin.

Patrick-

That last picture makes bright blue handle material sound appealing... it would take a loooong time to replace my CBK if I lost it in the leaf-litter.

Nice knives, dude! Ha! Love that movie. I don't have a lot of knives with hi-vis handles...I tend to check and double check to make sure my knives are in place, unless I have a strap or cord to provide a bit of extra security.

I hope my son gets as much use from the cabin as I did/do. It's a combination of spending time with family and exploring that makes it somewhat magical. It's there where I will teach him how to whittle, shoot guns, build fires, and all the other stuff I enjoyed as a youngster, and still do!

It's my favorite model; a modern, ergonomic knife. I have 3, all for different uses. More people should have them

Nice photos. I always liked the look of the Camp & Trail, and it's good to know it functions as good as it looks.
