can someone school me on dhar wood, what does it come from? a cane type of plant? i have a bvcak, and want to know what type of finishing products would be best for this wood type.
thanks.

Yangdu, I just received my WWII yesterday.I'd love that suga its a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. I cant order any more this month, but I just had to tell how much I admire it.

Ems on the Padam Suga. It's been a bit of a tight week but I kicked myself for missing these the last time around

Email auntie and have her hold one for ya. She has a supply. It is one really beautiful blade, and a deadly fighter.

Yangdu introduces dhar wood in this thread from 2010:

Last month I received shipments of few Tamang knives that have a super
strong wooden handle made out of a special redish wood, Dhar.

The tree that produces this red colored wood grows in southern Nepal, a
flatland that resembles Louisiana. It is warm, humid and full of mosquitos.

The wood is so strong that it is used to make a Theki, which is a bell with a
direct connecton to the Nepalese occult. It is used to make a Sherpa
homemade brew, Jadnh, by ensuring fermentation.

The wood has several uses, including making wagon wheels for Gada, a
wagon pulled by oxen or water buffaloes. If this beautiful wood is strong
enough to be made into wagon wheels, it should be more than strong enough
for wooden knife handles.

This unusual redish wood makes the knives I have special and rare. It will
hold a special place in your collections.

I think it's also spelled daar, the Nepali name for Boehmeria rugulosa, according to this source:

Looking up Boehmeria rugulosa gives this result, from an old book:

So do you love your WWII or what? It was my first HI and it's what infected me with HIKV lol. Did u get the 18 or 16? I hope the one i get looks as good as yours does in pics cul4u01. I ems and lost the DOTD but auntie is sending me another one sight unseen. I don't think I will have to worry about the end product so I asked her to send it without seeing pics. Can't friggin wait to have it hahahahaha

Yeah, I love it. I had thought of getting the 16" approx 23oz, but this one showed up, 18" 32oz. Surprisingly good I n hand for its size. Figured the 23oz would be too close to my villagers and a stout chopper increases my versatility. My girlfriend is paralyzed, weighs. ....100lbs when wet and even she loves it.

I got my sirupati the same way, just asking auntie to hook me up. A kumar sher treasure, and I would never had known to ask for one.

The bowie listed first in this thread just hit my desk safe and sound and home at last. It's a keeper as usual.

Bhakta did a nice job on this one.

Nice Bawanna, you are a regular bowie magnet. I was eyeing that little piece of heaven for a couple days now but I am glad you got it. You should post a pic with all your bowies lined up. I have a Bhakta AK on the way woot woot, I already have one of his WWII. He does amazing work and probably has the best fullers going.

Actually it would be a short line, I only have two, a 10" and my cherished and beloved 7 1/2" IBBB, this is the third a long handled IBBB and it most likely won't live with me very long. I was completely happy with my first one. I've been fixing other folks up over time. Such will probably be the case with this one. I think it's a worthy gift.
Wish I had the loot to buy a case lot, say 25 at a time. I'd fix ya up proper.
Many you may have seen me post were other peoples I just had to checker or do something too.
