Hi all,
I returned this morning from a weekend spent on Blue Mountain, hiking the Bruce Trail. The Blue Mountains section of the Bruce is my home away from home, but there are still some side trails and loops that I haven't explored. I'm trying to remedy that this summer. This weekend, I set out to explore the Singhampton Caves - which are amazing. I also wandered along some of my tried and true favourite trails, and did a bunch of hiking (and brush clearing) on some private land. It was a great weekend outdoors, and the weather really cooperated (though it's still unseasonably cool, especially on the mountain at night - which is just the way I like it).
I had two companions on my travels. The first was Ruby, my always-eager and adventurous lab. She really amazed me this weekend, scampering through some steep technical sections in the Singhampton caves. I guess it pays to have 'four-wheel drive'! She rewarded herself later with a romp through the mud. Here she is, covered in muck but pulling that innocent look that labs are famous for:
My other companion was my JK Anniversary Knife. It was used for food prep, fuzz-stick making, and trail maintenance. I brought along a cigar to enjoy in the evening, but decided that I would not use matches to light it. Instead, I cut a small pile of curls with my JK-AK, added some tinder, and used my firesteel to light a small fire. It was short-lived, but it burned long enough for me to light up my cigar.
Here are a few shots from the trails:
A blurry photo (damn Nikon!) from inside the Singhampton Caves:
The forest, as seen from the Bruce Trail:
Looking out over Georgian Bay:
Greenery!
Thanks for looking, and all the best,
- Mike
