Danelle and the boys - I've got a recently acquired Wegner jr. (as I sure everyone who reads this stuff knows by now). The pivot (if that's the correct term) was quite stiff when it arrived. It has now loosened up some with use. There is an allen head screw on the pivot shaft. Presumably that allows increasing or decreasing the tension. Can I simply adust this according to what feels about right for me - and to ensure it doesn't pop open in my pocket (Ouch!)?

Thanks,

Jack

Jack,

I found the screw was quite hard to turn first time, might have been assembled with Loc-tite initially. However I have since been able to adjust the action so that it is silky smooth with no lateral play. As always YMMV

Clay - thanks for that bit of information. I just finished following your suggestion. The only difference was, the screw on mine turned with firm, but not extreme, pressure. It took only a very tiny bit of movement to tighten everything right back up again. And you're right, it is always silky smooth. I really like this knife.

Hmmm... I read right here on the forums that the Wegners pivot/ tension screw was NOT user adjustable. It follows that the JR. is the same. The JR I gave to a friend is experiencing much resistance in opening but he' d rather not send it back and hope it will wear in. I' d like to hear a definite from Sal.

pivot stifness on the wegner (& jr's) is not uncommon-i've seen it on my full size wegner as well as a number of customer's knives. usually, this can be corrected by simply breaking the knife in. i do this by applying a small amount of 'break free' or hoppes #9 lube, or any other type of synthetic lube to the pivot & simply work the knife back & forth. i usually do this while watching 'avalanche' games (GO, AVS, GO!) this should aleviate the problem fairly quickly. if you're going to adjust the pivot, ONLY turn the the hex screw 1/4 turn past 'hand tight'. this will allow you less resistance on the pivot without any lateral play. 'hope this helps. -charlie

Charlie,

What size hex key to you use on the Wegner Jr? I have had trouble finding one which was a snug fit, the one I use has too much play and I fear I'll damage the socket

oh great....I gotta go find Vince...he's probably having convulsions somewhere....

Relax Danella. Everything's cool - really. I only turned it a little bit, with a little tiny, itty bitty wrench. I prefer it tight enough so there's no risk of a surprise blade opening. I would hate it if that happened!
