Guys - my Wegner Jr. was the best EDC I've ever kept, and now it has a cracked blade and has been discontinued from the lineup. Ergo, I must either find one to buy and replace mine, or choose another EDC. the only requirement for the EDC is comfortable carry, multi-use design, and lightweight. And, of course, it HAS to be a Spydie! Any suggestions along that line?

The Calypso Jr. Lite Weight is great. The VG10 gets awesome sharp. The full taper blade bevel just zooms through material. The fish-scale texture on the handle gives good grip. This is one heck of an EDC.

I have to agree with Jeff... The Calypso Jr. Lightweight is an awesome knife. You have to carry and use one for a while to really appreciate the ergonomics and design. BTW, I don't like the Micarta one nearly as much as the lightweight...

Cracked blade? Shoot it back to Spyderco ASAP, maybe they can do something for you. Their customer service is aces. (barring obvious abuse of course)
Outside of that- go to the "wanted to buy" forum here see who has a Jr. for sale. (sorry, but I'm keeping mine!) Also check w/ some of the folks who advertise here- some internet dealer may just have a couple laying around.

How about a Pro Venator or Pro Grip if they are still being made? Or maybe a Wenger Mouse knife?

Maybe the large Wegner will work for you? I carried one as an EDC until I started carrying my BF Native. The Native is a great EDC too.

The Native Lt wt is superb. Very comfortable to carry. It will fit inconspicuously in the little change pocket of a pair of Levis jeans, or can even be tucked inside the waistband. The CPM 440V blade is a very useful 3 inches.

The Wegner Jr. was discontinued because it didn't sell, why it didn't sell I don't know. If it didn't sell, it shouldn't be that hard to find someone who has one in stock that didn't sell.

The combo edge seems to be a lot easier to find than the plain edge.

Spyderco Customer Service may very well have parts to fix yours. It would be more that worth the effort to email them.

I think I saw a Wegner jr. plain edge on the exchange forums just this morning. I'm not sure if it's been sold yet, but you might want to check.

Buy a Jr while you can, send the old in exchange for something you can sell on the trade forums, break even.

Hi Adam. welcome to the Spyderco forum.

If the blade broke from a defect, it's our bad. we do something.

I recall the Wegner Jr. being discontinued some time ago. Interesting that for a model that was recently discontinued, it still generates quite a bit of discussion (as compared to the other models that were axed at about the same time). Just some food for thought.
P.S. the Wegner Jr. is my favorite spyderco. <IMG SRC="wink.gif" border="0">

Gentlemen, Thank you for yor responses. And thanks to Sal and his group - I did return the knife, and, since it was discontinued, was given a credit with Spyderco to replace my Wegner with an equally valued model. I think that the Calypso Jr. is the one! Again, thanks to you all and to Spyderco for their GREAT customer service - I shall continue to be an ardent supporter of Spydies!!!

FYI - I spoke with Spyderco and they are going to ship me two knives - the Calypso Jr. Lite-weight and the Dragonfly Lite-weight. The old purchase price on the Wegner was able to cover both knives. So now I get to see them both! Not too bad, eh? I agree with everyone that has made this comment - Sypderco's customer service is really excellent - can't be beat. Maybe that's why they have such a large and devoted following. I, for one, shall continue to be one of those! Thanks Sal!
