Wegner; Kydex Sheath?

I am awaiting my new full size Spydie Wegner which I just ordered. I hope to put this knife to work at the purpose for which it was intended, skinning big game (with luck). I'd like some sort of sturdy belt sheath to carry my new prize in while actually hunting. Does Spyderco or anyone else offer a heavy duty cordura or better yet, a kydex type sheath? The generic X-Mart types just won't cut it (pardon the pun). Thanks, GC.

Maybe I should be a little more specific. I stated SHEATH, when maybe I should have said CARRY POUCH. Some sort of sturdy carry pouch/sheath for outdoor carry, were I don't have to be concerned with losing the knife. Something at least reasonably well fitting to the knife, with a dependable belt attachment. Thanks again.

Mike Sastre makes a neck sheath for the Wegner if you are interested in one. I have several of them and they work great. His sheaths are designed to be lashed to a whitewater raft, or backpack, too. I am sure he can make ANY style thermoplastic sheath you want for your Wegner (or any other knife out of Kydex, or Concealex). He does great work!

I'm sure Chiro75 could set you up also. I've never read anything but good things about his work and his prices are reasonable. He's here on the Forums frequently. Look him up.

Thanks guys, what's the difference between Kydex and Concealex? Would one be more comfortable and or durable than the other? Thinking about it I will have one made for my Cold Steel Master Hunter. I have the old stlye cordura sheath, it's kinda cheap looking and never made me feel totally comfortable wearing it.

I'm not sure about material composition, but the main differences between Kydex and Concealex is the thickness of the material. Concealex was engineered with uses for gun holsters and knife sheaths. It is a bit thicker than Kydex and has more "grab" on the knife than Kydex does. Thus a more secure hold.

I've got kydex and concealex holsters, and comparing them side by side, in this instance the thickness are so near the same as to be indiscernible to the naked eye. However, there are notable differences between the two materials, in both texture and color.
The Concealex looks blacker (in a basic black sheath/holster). Also, in the samples I have, the Concealex has more surface texture on the outside, making for better positioning of the holster IWB (I have heard people complain about plastic holsters moving around while being carried IWB). In retention, I can discern no difference between the two.
I have one of Mike Sastre's Moran sheaths, which I believe is Concealex. I also have the first incarnation of the Nimravus Cub sheath (which I believe is Kydex, vs. the current sheath, which I think is Concealex). Both work extremely well, although I have to give the nod for workmanship (as well as design and usability) to River City (Mike Sastre).

oops, forgot to mention one other thing. Kydex is only available in basic colors (black, maybe grey, olive... maybe). Concealex is available with different colorful patterns, including, IIRC, Advantage (type) camo, basic camo, desert camo, urban camo, and the neat carbon fiber pattern as available in the BladeForums Native neck sheaths.

Outlaw_Dogboy,

Kydex is available in solid colors only. I have a sample set of kydex a company sent in front of me: there are 34 colors on it, 9 textures in thickness from 0.028" - 0.250"! I thought they just did a few colors, too - amazing.

You can get Concealex in patterns, though; right? Or was that kydex? Am I totally turned around here?

O_D,

Ooops sorry, man - LOL....No you are right about the Concealex being in multi-color, and with patterns that are on top (not a thru color)of the material. I haven't a clue how many colors, thickness, or texture they are availbable for Concealex.

I am no material expert, I thought that Kydex was made in a couple of colors - NOT 34 though! I called a local plastics place for availability and pricing. I had purchased some 0.060" Kydex for $3/sq ft, and 0.093" for $6/sq ft - I can get a whole 4' x 8' sheet of black 0.093" for about $100 shipped ($2/sq ft). You save a bunch BUT a 4' x 8' sheet can make a LOT of sheaths! LOL.

I need to check around here and see if I can find a plastics place. I would like to start trying to make my own, just because....

although, all of mine would be in basic black. (I have no imagination
