Wegner Mouse or Herbst Autumn Folder ?

I am considering trading my Spyderco/Peter Herbst in PE(it's called an Autumn Folder on some sites) for a Spyderco Wegner Mouse. I got the Herbst two weekends ago. It is a newer one made in Seki City with VG-10 blade and Almite coated aluminum scales. I like it and it feels good in my hand. However, I have been intrigued by the Mouse since the first time I saw it. Note that I said "saw", I have never held one or seen it in person only on the web. Therefore, I don't know which to go for. I will say that I have three small Spydies like the Navigator due to my liking a 2" blade for work or church for that matter. However, I have several larger ones like the Delica and the Rookie so I like the 3" blade at other times. I want to start collecting more of the Spydie collaborations so either one fits the bill in that regard. So, given the choice between the two which would you choose and why? Please help me out on this one y'all.

Simple: Do you want a smaller knife? :D I have both, and they have similar missions in life. Both are great utility style folders and great EDCs, with the Mouse having more belly for hunting purposes if need be. I'm a huge Mouse fan and I think it is one of the best small knives out there. But it sounds like you have a Navigator and don't have anything quite like a Herbst. So IMHO keep the Herbst unless you want a smaller knife RIGHT NOW, and get a Mouse next. :D

Thanks for the feedback Tactical. Anybody else have an opinion based on their experience(s) with one or both of these knives?

All I know is the Mouse and it's an excellent knife. Good fit and finish. Built like a tank. Unique blade design. Very practical. The handle fits the hand well, ending just before the pinky. Fits in an Altoid tin. Great box opener and general use knife except as a slicer of big apples however it can still be done, just takes a little more thought. Although I've never owned the Navigator, Co-pilot, etc., I've seen and played with them and believe the Mouse is the best of the bunch.

I don't mean to belabor the question but I was hoping that some folks who didn't see this thread yesterday might see it tonight and respond. Any advice/incite would be appreciated. Thanks, t_f

I have a Mouse and love its ergonomics and VG10 steel. The shape and thickness of that little 1/8th" blade cuts like a knife twice its size. I have three Spydercos (Mouse, Moran, and Rescue) and the Mouse is my favorite.

Funnily enough, I'm in the opposite boat from you - I think I want to get a Spyderco Herbst in VG10. To add further complications to your situation, I just read on the Spyderco forum that Tim Wegner will be releasing the Mouse II at the end of February...

I would go with the mouse because I too like smaller blades.

I have heard nothing but good things about the mouse and I hope to find out myself someday just how good they are :)

I must say that I was also looking at the Spyderco/Peter Herbst just tonight befor reading this thread.
It looks like something I would also like to try someday, but the mouse would be first on my list.

my mouse don't rotate in my edc lineup. they're great! you should be able to get one for around $60.00 if you look dilligently, and have a little paitence. pm
