I just bought my first Spyderco-the Wegner. I picked this thing up in a local store and was impressed with its apparent quality. When I got home(in better light) I noticed that one side of the blade had what looked like "clouding" or milk colored stains on part of it. The blade is also very shiny, almost as if a coating has been applied over the ATS-34. I tried to rub off the spots with a cloth, but no luck.

Has anyone else experienced this with either a Wegner or another Spyderco? Are these discolorations something that a polish like Simichrome would get rid of? Warranty issue? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Other than this, I'm impressed with this knife-it's got a very stout blade, the liner lock (which I'm not really a big fan of anymore) is solid, and I love the g-10 scales. Thanks, Dave

Dave,
I had the same "cloudy" spots on 2 Wegner Jrs. I purchased several years ago. I put some BREAK-FREE CLP on the blades & let it "soak in" over night. I might have had to do this twice, can't remember.
Anyway... the spots eventually went away. No big deal. Enjoy your new knife!

your store most likely had that knife for awhile.
they are hard to find especially in pe.you might want to buy a lottery ticket.
:D

Some Spydercos tend to get a bit of an "orange-peel" sort of look to the steel when it's polished a certain way, but the Wegner doesn't have any polished bits, if I remember right. Can you take a good pic of what you're describing and post it? The Wegner is my all time favorite Spyderco still. What a great knife!

You can find BREAK-FREE CLP in almost any gun or sporting goods store. CLP stands for Cleaner Lubricant Preservative. It comes in a black labeled container. Be sure to get this one.
There is also a BREAK-FREE LP that is only a Lubricant Preservative, it is in a silver labeled bottle. I don't know if the LP alone will help.
