I just picked this one up for a good price (I think!), but don't know much about when it was made. It is a Weidmannsheil Jagdmesser with boarshead shield at 4.38" closed. The clip main locks open, and to close it you depress the Wharncliffe secondary deeper into the blade well. Very nice construction, good stag, no gaps, smooth opening, good snug lockup, blades centered. The mark side clip main tang is stamped with a boarshead on the left, and WEIDMANNSHEIL over SOLINGEN over GERMANY on the right.

Both blades open

I've seen two distinct boxes for Weidmannsheil knives, both shown here. Mine came in the top box (two piece), which looks older to me,
but there is no dating on knife or box.

Any help dating this knife would be greatly appreciated. It's a nice one.

I don't have any information but I have to say that is one really nice knife!

I really like that blade combination.

I'm afraid I can't help either, but that is a really handsome looking knife. I agree with Robert, the blade configuration is smashing.

Great score

Cant help you date it precisely, but the Parker gang sold/sells Weidmannsheil knives along with the last generation of Bulldog brand (both Friedrich Olbertz mfr) in the mid to later 2000s. I wish I had snatched one of those when they were more readily available!

Jeff, I had the exact same knife, thick, solid and well built with beautiful stag. Again one of the many I regret selling.

Mine came in the brown box also. I'm no help with dating the knife though. I sold mine a couple of years ago.

I love the trick lock

Thanks for all the nice comments. Paul, you say you sold yours a couple years ago, but how long before that did you buy it, and was it bought new?

I've seen somewhere that Weidmannsheil were made from 1882-1991, but then other people have said they have continued to be made by Parker/Bulldog since then. Any knowledge on this would be helpful.

That's a nice-looking knife Jeff

Jeff, I bought that Weidmannsheil along with two other single Weidmannsheil lockbacks (all sold here on the form) back around 2003/04? All outstanding knives.

Paul

Jeff - a nice looking knife and a great score, indeed!

I gonna do my best and try find out something about the cutlery history of Weidmannsheil... :)

Hi guys! I´ve been searching in the depths of the www and found out that Weidmannsheil was no cutlery. it was a brand. The cutlery was Wilhelm Weltersbach, Solingen. I´ve also found out, that there exist(ed) two different Weidmannheils. One was Waidmannsheil (written with an "a") and the other was Weidmannsheil (written with an "e").

the cutlery Weltenbach disappeared from the market in 1994 - it was bought by the cutlery Diefenthal, a very well known cutlery here in Germany.

Your Weidmannsheil knife could also be made by F. Olbertz, Solingen (better known as brand Carl Schlieper aka Eye Brand Knives). Olbertz also produced the brand Bulldog Knives for the american market.

Here´s a link to the german forum site - FYI

I hope that helps a little :)

Thank you Paul and Andi. I'm thinking that my knife is from the mid 1990s to the early 2000s, made by Olbertz. I've had Eye brand knives, and this one has a very similar feel. Stout quality.

Jeff, thanks. I find these decent knives, I particularly like the stamped blade, the stag on this one is smooth and more like bone but it is a pleasant and clever knife. Got some small Weidmannsheil lockback in Red Stag and Damascus lurking away somewhere, but where?:D

Regards, Will
